Thats correct, the cable is soldered. On the 20 pin ribbon header for internal 5.25 drive, the voltages check out except there is no -12 volts on pin 9. On the external drive port the voltages check out including -12 volts on pin5. On the schematic for the internal connector, pin 9 is drawn with...
The ROM on the Apple Iic was fine, I bent a pin on the AE memory expansion board when I replaced it, it works fine after a jumper.
Since V-tech backwards engineered the Apple IIc ROM for the Laser, can I put the Laser 128 ROM into the Apple Iic and see if it works? Should the Apple Iic ROM...
Nothing on display.....got the 12, 5 and -12 volts on external floppy port; only 12 on the internal floppy port....need to look at/locate the pinouts on ROM and processor I guess...can acmes the ROM and ports easily but lots and lots of screws to get past shielding to mainboard
Looked inside...didn't see anything, but did ruin my Apple Iic ROM when I tried it. Heres a couple of pictures of the logic board incase it helps someone. The Laser ROM is on the bottom of the logic board and is accesible by removing 2 screws.
Well...proof of concept anyway. The fat lady has not sung.
Going to try this next (https://pmdway.com/products/fpc-ffc-flat-cable-to-through-hole-dip-breakout-board?_pos=192&_sid=3e93c12a8&_ss=r) because the video signal breaks down into 12 small caliber traces. Was going to...
I don't know, but in your picture of UD8 its hard to imagine that pins 3 and 4 aren't shorted at the board...andmaybe its the angle but is there a Pin 3 even there coming from UD8?
So after ALOT of work as my last action on a working 180c, I replaced the hinge covers closed the top and walked 20 feet inside, plugged in and got a white screen only. I had pinched the LCD cable with the hinge cover then ripped it when I closed. I'm not counting on finding a replacement cable...

I cannot find anything that says any differently for the SE/30.
A better lucky than good type situation but pretty satisfying. I have a PB180c with a dim/wabbling display and a stripe that I finally got around to recap yesterday. The cap area was a mess but cleaned up well, but after recap (with hot air..easiest recap yet), the color and brightness were...
Just recapped a Powerbook 180C
On the 180C screen
47 uF 16 Vx 4
10 uF 16 V x2
10 uF 25 V x2
on the LCD power board 22 uF 10V x2
brightness/ contrast looks great but didn't get rid of the stripe of blacked out pixels
Mixed results with retro bright.....Apple Iic looked fantastic about 18 months ago after retrobright.....now its clearly yellowed again in an office environment , maybe not quite as bad as before retrobright....but a Powermac 7500 done at about the same time on the same table holding up well...
Alright, its basic and sorry for the space its on the Goggle (though I did figure it out by measuring a lot of the SE/30's resistors before I verified)
for other amateurs out there:
the number on the resistor is a 3 number code....first 2 numbers then the 3rd number is the number of zeros to...
1) Pin 8 to the logic board (+12 volts) has capacitors 2 and 25 in parallel and they seem to be intact. It also has 2 resistors (R14 and R15, with the number "100" on them but listed as 10 ohm resistors in the schematic) in parallel. When I measure either R14 or R15 I get a short. Is this really...
Will be watching with interest. I just got a SE/30 a couple of days ago that would work normally for a little while then crash. Recapped....then what you see below. It kinda looks familiar. I've tried reseating RAM, ROMS, re-replaced capacitors, confirmed traces and have nt found the cause. The...
I had a working Laser 128 ex ((Apple IIc clone) that was working fine. The external 3.5 inch drive was not, but I could plug it into the computer and just get an I/O error on APTPro. I disassembled the external drive, unplugging multiple small connections in the process, cleaned, reassembled...
