Received my LC III+ logic board back from Max today! It had died awhile back from what I assumed was a power surge/brownout, but actually turned out to be trace rot. Max transferred the components from my logic board over to one of his new production boards. It looks amazing! Gonna get it back...
Tried my hand at soldering them tonight. The first TDK didn’t work afterwards. Well, it sort of works. Fans spins at about half speed, HD doesn’t spin up. Either something else is broken or I goofed a solder joint. The second TDK works perfectly. They were both stone dead, and both had a...
Out of my 5 pizzabox machines, the only two working power supplies are Dyna Comps. The other three that are dead are TDKs. I just bought 5 capacitor kits, one for each power supply, from Console5. I think my very basic soldering skills can handle thru-hole caps pretty easily…I hope…lol.
I believe the Techtool Pro application by Micromat will display if there is an FPU installed in the hardware section. Not sure about any apps to be able to test functionality. I’d like to be able to do that too.
My LCIII+ has a 68030 CPU marked 33 but it only ran at 25MHz. @max1zzz is in the process of finishing up transferring all of its chips and parts to one of his new production LC III boards, and I had him do the resistor mod so it runs at 33MHz like it should. Can’t wait to get it back :D
Definitely! Our first Mac at home was a Performa 6300CD. Hobbled machine, but we loved it nonetheless. I lusted after the 6360/6400/6500 machines when they came out though. Glad to have one in my collection.
Appreciate that. I already grabbed a 7200rpm 20GB drive off eBay though. Got a lead on
the front panel too, but I still have to do some looking in the crawlspace. There’s a buttload of boxes down there 🤣
Power supply seems to be ok. I plugged it in and hit the button and it chimes fine. Power supply fans spin up etc. It’s missing the carrier for the optical drive/zip too though. Pains me to see it like that. We take things for granted till years later. I should’ve kept better care of it since we...
That would be nice…I got some work to do on the G3 though. I dug it out of the crawlspace today and boy it’s in worse shape than I remember. It’s missing a video card, hard drives, optical drive, although I found what I believe to be the OEM Apple DVD drive near it. Also missing the front cover...
I know this is an old thread, but I was getting a bus error crash on my 6400/180 running 7.5.5 with SetDate 1.0 with Modern Memory Manager turned on. I turned it off, rebooted, SetDate worked fine then, no crash. Turned MMM back on, along with virtual memory and all seems well so far. Got a new...
I upgraded the Rage 128 that came with my B&W G3 years ago to a Radeon I believe. I can put the Rage back in the G3 and use the Radeon. Gotta dig the B&W out of the crawlspace though.
Yeah I’m sure stoked I got it for such a great price. $85 for a complete system with printer is unheard of these days. People on eBay seem to think uncapped LC’s are worth $150-200 😂😂 Image quality looks good too. Still nice and bright, crisp text. I know I could find a non-Apple CRT monitor to...
6400 works as well, but both the floppy and the CD-ROM aren’t working. The CD drive opens the tray but doesn’t do anything when a disc is inserted. Luckily I have my external AppleCD 600e. Happy days!
I’ve been looking for a period correct Apple monitor to pair with my Performa 475. I’ve got the 12” color monitor that matches the LC/pizzabox Macs, but 512x384 resolution is too cramped for the 475, plus that’s for my LC III+. eBay searches high and low returned monitors either too far, or too...
