Portable - two steps forward one back

Like this, all of the pins are shared except CS (Chip Select). Front and back for sure and maybe even left to right For more info: https://ece-research.unm.edu/jimp/310/slides/8086_memory2.html

Portable - two steps forward one back

Pretty easy, all of the pins except 1 should ohm out to the chip in front of it.

Reverse Engineering the Macintosh SE PCB & Custom Chips for 1:1 reproduction

Look, I found N.O.S Maxell, looks like it might work my IIFX or a newly created SE logic board: https://www.diytrade.com/china/pd/15028592/Maxell_3_6V_1_2_AA_Lithium_thionyl_chloride_battery_ER3.html

Fingernail Polish to protect exposed copper?

It's basically just a lacquer, not a problem. IF that's what you want to use go for it.

First Macintosh Classic II trying to fix

No, you only need to replace the electrolytics. Anyhow, looks like a ram problem to me. In my opinion you need to check everything for continuity, pins and traces around the ram.

First Macintosh Classic II trying to fix

Start by putting it in the dishwasher and dry in your oven @ 170f for 4 hours. I bet there's electrolyte under the ram chips

Mac OS 8 on a Classic II

I'm sorry I meant 7.6.1, I can't edit that. Yeah it's like 20 disks, a big pain. You might also be interested to know that Mac os 8 was originally going to be Mac OS 7.7: https://apple.fandom.com/wiki/Mac_OS_7.7

Mac OS 8 on a Classic II

I'm not surprised, I once installed 7.5 on one. I wonder if there is a away to reign in ram usage, have you paired down extensions and control panels?

    Mac II refurbishment..

You can probably fix that board but if you can afford it I'd suggest finding an original board like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Very-Rare-Original-Macintosh-II-Motherboard-820-0163-03-Ships-Worldwide/193715932365?hash=item2d1a5e8ccd:g:WDIAAOSwi~9fT38u These original boards use all Axial caps...

A Crazy Question - do I need a fan? (CC)

In that case he is most likely talking about black and white compact macs. In a color crt mac the voltages involved are much higher, the answer is yes. But with that being said you can probably replace the fan with one that is both of higher cfm and quieter.

Thermal calibration G5 ASD, new discovery

This is pretty typical, I'm just thankful it saves the new settings before it errors otherwise it would be really noisy. Many point the G5 as hot and inefficient but to be fair compared to the Pentium D it's really not that bad.

    DayStar Turbo601 for IIci?

There are ones for 040 pds and ones for 030 pds such as in the iici or iivx. I have one it my iici, it’s pretty neat. It even changes the startup sound to PowerPC. The 040 card will fit in more machines but in my opinion the 030 card is worth more do to it being more rare.

    Macintosh Plus - Repair Help

FML is right! Only kidding... According to the datasheet, these chips are 256k x 1 bit, the way you calculate a total for a simm is to add all the bits and then divide by 8 to get bytes. so 256k x 1 bit x 8 chips / 8 = 256kb per simm. (I realize multiplying by 8 then dividing by 8 is redundant...
