    Retrobrite in Australia

I have some machines that I need to de-yellow, but we have different products than in the US. I'm assuming I can use Napisan Oxi-Action instead, but instead of guessing, I'd rather get some local advice (ie. products we have, measurements in metric, etc). I have a heap of machines I want to...

400K Floppy Drives: Figured out how to de-gunk, but alas

I have some 128k macs, but I can't get the floppy drives working at all. Until Saturday, they were all gunked with 30 year old grease, and using some helpful tips here, I was able to figure out how to clean them and get them operating as they should (at least the insert/eject). Now, they are...

TAM hangs after a few startups

I bought a TAM that was 'not working', but I was able to get it started with nothing on the screen. I replaced the PRAM battery with another one, and the screen came on and the machine worked. However, I still have an Address Bus Error after it loads the extensions and is about to go to the...

    Macintosh 128k, but...

Lol, I certainly sounded whiny when posting this. Very happy either way, now I just need to find some time to clean them up and get them running properly.

    Original Macintosh Box and Packaging

Someone had a Mac Plus on eBay that ended last night, but it turns out that it came in an original mac box, inclusive of all packaging materials and inserts. I have the stuff that is missing (manuals, system disks), so with a clean up, it should look good with my original mac in it. The box...

    Macintosh 128k, but...

I got one as part of a massive collection, bought another two for $100 each and now this one. They all turn on, unlike the later models of Plus that always seemed to blow magic smoke, and they all feel very solid. When I get some time, I'll need to learn how to clean and lubricate these 400k...

    Macintosh 128k, but...

Why do they always seem to have a 512k board in them?!?! Can't complain, I got it for $80. Gave it a good clean and it looks great. Floppy drive gummed up, boots with no sound, but asks for a disk. That's 4 I own now, and each of them has a crap disk drive, and all but one have a 512k board.

New CC with a few surprises

I've been in the same situation before and am usually able to negotiate a discount.

    Apple/Bose Roommate speakers

Send them this way, I have a step down transformer that I use for my compact Macs at 110V - and my wife's US bought Kitchenaid.

    Quite unique IIfx on ebay..

Some might disagree with me, but I wait until 5 seconds out, have my top bid plus $5 entered, and give it a crack. I've gotten some absolute bargains over the years, and also been outbid too. At those times, I might have entered another bid, but it also keeps me paying more than my rational...

    Apple External SCSI CAse

I know this thread is as old as the hills, but I have one of these and haven't tried to use it as yet. It has '500SC' silkscreened on the front, but I understand they come with a 1GB or 2GB HDD. The serial number on this one is several months earlier than the other ones I see online, can...

Educated guess on price for a non-upgraded Lisa 1?

Uni, if you don't get the TAM, you aren't meant to have one. Over time, it has become my most favourite mac, even more so than my boxed Cube and my original 128K Mac.

How does one clean a Mac carrying bag?

I found out that the dry cleaners won't touch them due to their awkward size. So I used warm soapy water and a sponge, and cleaned the hell out of them. Not only did it clean them, but they smelled a lot nicer afterwards too.

    My first Mac

Pretty certain the WP means 512K, and P means 128K.

Your NIB(New In Box) or NOS(New Old Stock) Apple Collections

I had a box of microphones in the plastic wrap, so I was chucking them in with each computer I sold on eBay. Got a heap of stuff boxed, but all used, apart from an Adjustable Keyboard.

    Macintosh plus boxes

The colour box would be the earlier beige model, and going forward into the 90s, Apple went with cardboard coloured boxes, so that would most likely be a Platinum up to 1990. You can find a lot of info out there on the two different colours of macs, from the first beige models, to the swap to...

Macintosh IIfx (The Mother Of Invention) poster

That's the one! I forgot all about that. I remember reading it for a few minutes to learn what was inside a computer, then taking home brochures on the LC475, LC575, Quadras, etc. In the end, I convinced my parents to put down $3,500 on an LC575. I loved that computer, so much so that I...

Macintosh IIfx (The Mother Of Invention) poster

I remember seeing one of these back in the day for an LC. From memory, the red describes each of the parts inside (HDD, RAM, etc). Good memories.

    Apple Network Server 500/132

Looks fantastic, you'll never get another opportunity to get one of these again - especially in working order. Very nice!
