Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
Seems to me like you won, to be honest. A recap of the board and you have a great machine, just did the same for $50 myself.
And if you do it right, you can end up with a hobby AND be cash positive. I've bought really well and sold really well, most people have no idea how to sell these...
I'd have to go the Color Classic II. That screen, old school connectivity, in a cute little shape, you could add a IIe card, and it finally had the performance to match. The SE/30 was a beast back in the day, but the CCII trumps it in almost every way. Rare as hen's teeth, I only have a...
I remember reading somewhere that there were 6 packs, but this might include a couple of revisions.
One of mine is a v1.1, and then I have a newer version of the same pack but v1.1.1.
Gotta love a TechStep! Mine has 4 ROM packs, and I've just passed on my other one to another forum member who has been on the hunt for a very long time.
Yeah, it's gotten pretty heated recently but we are so close to the end, I backed down. To be honest, I just want my Portables back, so maybe it's best I take them as is and move on with a different repairer.
Thanks so much for the advice!
I probably should clarify. He's swapped parts back and forth to make one great and one average Portable, and lots of little stuff like replacing worn and broken rubber parts, tickled the hard drives back to life, and a host of other things along the way. He even had one of them recapped and...
He gave me the option earlier in the year to either have a full battery rebuild, or a different battery setup that hides inside the original battery case and holds a charge for up to 3 hours for $30. Considering the expense I'm going to for the rebuild, and that I would be using this connected...
I'm having my two Portables refurbished, and it's going on 12 months now (don't ask).
I've been told they are being finicky with powering on properly, in that they need to be plugged in for up to 12 hours to "charge the circuits to make them work". He goes on to add, "These issues are related...
I think it's the original, white labels with black and red text. I'm sure my family had 2.0 and I seem to recall a yellow disk.
Will give those options a shot and will see what happens!
I have two copies of Kid Pix on floppy, and when I try to open the program, I get a 'Not Enough Memory' error. This is despite the program being suited to LC's, and machines I've attempted it on range from a PowerBook 165c through to a G3 Wallstreet. Every machine comes up with the same error...
I've been unashamedly a huge fan of the TAM, and whilst many of the negative points people raise are in relation to it's original price, or how the internals are pieced together, it's easily my most favourite Mac of all time.
System 7 is my fave OS, and this machine, especially with a G3 card...
Maxell strikes again hey? Should have stuck with the Varta, they never seem to leak.
I've had two of these, one didn't work due to caps, the other worked. Tried to turn that one on last year, no good. Caps are the bane of these machines.
I've had my Portable in for repair for the longest time, reading this thread I can't wait to get it back! A 'portable' machine running System 6, yes please!
The usual. Zap the screen and disassemble after that. A favourite is to run the machine with brightness on full, and pull the cord out to suck as much residual energy as possible. I thought the newer models had a circuit that drained out the residual, but you can never be too careful.
Mac Tracker also states the original hard drive is a 160GB, which would be correct. The LC 575 which came after was available in a 160 and 250.
Second hand drives can be had reasonably cheap, but you can always get an external drive too. Not sure if it has the connections, but I am fond of...
I got a similar thing with an ED I bought a few years ago. It is probably the cleanest compact Mac I've come across to date, and it had a 2MB RAM board installed. Love these things! I also have an SE with a Levco board in it, and another SE with some other card (can't recall as this time...
Wish I could help, mine came with the original install CD so I didn't have to go scrounging. However, the 7.6 installer I have worked with the TAM and TV functions, so I would think it would be in there already.
