How to best clean a Mac SE case?

Exactly right.  The AB may have leaky caps, and it's always good to check, but I rarely find an issue with them.  That said, never assume and always check everything just to be sure. Only cap issues I have seen have been the PSU's on the SE, so that's good news.

How to best clean a Mac SE case?

If it's just an SE, not an SE/30, then caps shouldn't be a big deal.  The SE seems to be very tough, especially compared to the SE/30. Still, it would be a good idea to crack it open, clean out any dust and bugs, check that everything is connected, and possibly even service the floppy drive...

Dismantling a Mac SE/30 for retrobriting?

I always just give the frame a tap, just to be sure. I've taken out the CRT and analog board still connected together to transplant from one machine to the other a number of times, no issues here.

    How rare are LC 575s

Even 5 years ago, you would find these every now and then.  The place I did my mega pick had about 20 of these, starting to wonder if another trip might be on the cards.  I recall a stack of pizza boxes as well, at least as tall as me.  Most of these systems weren't worth a lot back then, but...

    HD20 failure rate?

Every Rodime drive I've come across has failed, don't appear to be particularly reliable from my experience.

    HD20 failure rate?

    I've come across 4 HD20SC's and 2 SC20's, they've all worked a treat.

And the dual floppy fascia is the same as a single floppy, it's just an easily removable insert.

Cheap 512k or 128k motherboard replacement

Plus board won't work, ports are different at the rear because of the introduction of SCSI.  So you can only use a 128K or 512K board in it, unless you want to replace the rear bucket. As these boards don't have caps, I would think they are generally repairable (unless the battery leaked on the...

    Reviving a 512K Hyperdrive - Error Code 0F0100

Need to have a solid state storage system that makes artificial old school hard drive noises when drive activity occurs.  I'm sure someone could make that work without too much hassle?

Are the Classic and Classic II worth buying?

In my opinion, no.  The only saving grace is that one of them can boot up System Software from ROM, a cool party trick but that's it. if you have an SE, I would look at a Color Classic, which you can then add the IIe card to, and swap out the LB for an LC575 one for speed.

Yep, have used HD20SC's before without any issues, so thinking it could be the Plus.

Does the Portable require AC power for a certain period of time to boot?

The other one has tested fine however. Did the reset and it powered right up, seems to run a treat but the battery situation is a bit iffy. I was told battery life would decrease but not that much? Will leave charging and see what happens. Swapping the battery back into the other one, no dice.

Does the Portable require AC power for a certain period of time to boot?

Well, I got the machines back yesterday.  He still hasn't told me how much the total bill is, but he still sent them back.  It came back in the same box I originally sent them off in, and I saw the consignment date: 01 October 2015!  Wow... I opened up the 'good' portable and can see a crack...

Mac SE - Was working, now black screen and no chime

I bought an SE/30 recently that was non-working.  Pulled it apart, and all the cables were disconnected.  Reconnected them all and it made all the right noises, but the screen was blank.  After much head scratching, I noticed that the yoke was not attached to the crt, and after straightening a...

    Macintosh 512k floppy drive

I see no reason why it wouldn't, you can easily give it a shot.  Most components are plug and play, not a lot changed between iterations apart from the logic board and the drives.

Formatting CF hard drive for SE/30

Hmmm, interesting.  With mine, I booted from the TAM CD, installed 7.6.1, created 4 partitions, and then went and installed 8.6 and 9.1 on two partitions.  I have a 16GB card, so it was 4GB for each OS and then a storage hard drive.  Works a treat! When connecting to a newer machine, I use my...

Formatting CF hard drive for SE/30

Interesting, I set up the CF card with the TAM boot disks, then plug it into my MBP if I want software on it.  When I connect it back up to the TAM, it runs like a champ.  Not sure what the issue is on yours Techknight?
