Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
Ha ha, if I had a spare $100K I might have bought it! Most I've spent on any one machine is $525, so I'm an opportunistic shopper.
Glad you like the pics!
Considering a few of us have Drexels, I think we need to compare notes on specifications, part numbers, etc. There isn't a lot of info out there, so it would be good to have it all in one place.
Fair enough, I love mine for it's originality, you love yours because it's been modded. Just shows our particular bent for Macs in our hands!
So I assume your machine now has two barcodes? We know your kit was made towards the later half of 1986, and it's entirely possible the upgrade was done...
The original batch had the blue silkscreen, but a second batch had the branding. Yours would be the second batch. What are the serial numbers on yours?
After cleaning and lubricating the drive last night, I was pretty happy with its operation, and was confident it would work. As requested by Unity, please find pictures of the drive below:
Then I put it all back together again, below are some more pictures of the inside, including the...
Correction, the Mac is week 6, the keyboard week 5, and the mouse week 2. I guess it's possible for this to have happened in the early days, I recall a story over at Folklore when there was no reason or rhyme for serial numbers at the start.
When I started comparing serial numbers for known Drexel 128K Macs, I noticed something interesting - they were all week 6 of 1984, and I found one on the M0001 Registry, the one that sold on eBay last year, and a fellow members Drexel. They were the 4330th, 2585th, and 3510th made that week...
Can definitely confirm this is all original, none of the screws have any wear, and it appears to be in excellent condition. Just finished servicing the drive, should read like a champ now.
Interestingly, I looked at the serial numbers on Drexel macs. All are week 6 of 1984, and I found one on...
Yep, sure is there, I wiped it down last night. First one I've come across with it installed, and because it's been a little while, I didn't even bat an eyelid about it being there. Should have noticed it immediately! I won't be using mine for long periods, so it'll be left in place for...
As you may have seen on another thread or two (eBay finds and an older Drexel Mac thread), I scored a Drexel Mac for the princely sum of USD$199.95. However, add in GSP to get it to Australia of USD$138.28, and then a handy credit from eBay of USD$14.35 (or AUD$20), and I’m left with a bill of...
Think you would be better off using a 40MB drive from something like the LC range. Have heard that they work, just draw a little more power, and you would need the adapter.
Yep, I've also had one of those hybrid boards that appear to mark it as a 128K, but it had the 512K blue sticker on the rear of the board. Boots up and sure enough, 512K.
Don't be too quick to judge, a lot of these disks just don't work any longer because of their age. Have had plenty of disks that used to work do that to me.
