I got a 512k from a friend. He got it from someone, and that one completely took it apart. Also the case is painted with some ugly beige Apple Snow White wannabe color, that needs removing. Brake fluid prehaps?
The logic board is modded, there is a MagicSCSI card installed.
Analog board has...
I changed the SCSI chip, but it still doesn't work. So I guess I would need a new motherboard. However, this PB 230 also has a dead keyboard, a LCD with delamination problems and a broken LCD latch. So I guess it's more or less just for parts...
Hmm, if you smashed the CRT neck and let the vacuum out, you're really out of luck on that SE/30 :( . You would need a new tube, but you'll also need to replace it and then do an adjustment.
I also been there, done that. You probably left the CRT board on? I did that, so it was really easy to...
I drew the line too soon. It actually doesn't work correctly. It will chime, but I only get a white screen with no pointer (even in the Duo Dock, so it isn't the LCD cable), and the hard drive won't spin.
The PRAM battery is missing, but I doubt that this will cause these symptoms.
So I am out...
Y1 something? Sorry, but you have a bad case of a battery leakage. You definitely should clean this board AASP and then look for damaged components. Also the picture is too blurred to be any good.
If the board is not too damaged, you can then proceed with recap. Clean the board first with soapy...
Yup, I also believe that the motor control circuitry might be acting up. Perhaps is there someone on the forum that knows something about these three phase motor controllers, as they were used on pretty much every floppy drive. It might be a dried-up capacitor on the PCB, however, I checked them...
I swapped the drives, but it does the same if connected to the internal port.
I played with the drive some more and found out that the motor will start by its own if it is rotated in some positions.
I took some voltage measurements that confirmed this, as sometimes there is 12V present on the...
I just finished fixing up a Mac 512K. It works like new, including the internal floppy drive.
But the external 400K drive is making me mad. It is a SONY OA-D34V-22.
At first, the mechanism was stuck. This was easy to remedy. I also noticed that the pressure pad was missing.
But then, when I...
I replaced the IC with a new one, and now it works correctly. It still whines for a second or so, but I believe that this is normal.
But, now I discovered that the display flat cable is broken, as I can't adjust the contrast (it goes only up, but not down).
Is there a way to repair the cable...
I solved the problem. The picture came at different screen angles, so I figured that it must be the connection issue.
I took the whole PB apart, cleaned all the connections with the contact cleaner and then put it all back together.
I also checked the LCD screen, and it has some electrolytics...
I just bought myself a nice condition PB 520c which was said to be working.
When I powered it on, it only showed white picture, so I guessed that the contrast must be off or something. I perhaps saw a very very faint picture in the background of the Mac OS loading screen. The contrast control...
Yup, I recently recapped two PowerBook 230 Duos which both of them had major capacitor leakage. One of them sadly decided to quit working shortly afterwards, I believe that it was probably because of capacitor leakage.
You can quickly check for the leakage by simply lifting the keyboard. If the...
I am testing a PB 170 which has a bad hard disk drive. I connected the HD-30 SCSI dock adapter to it, but at startup it won't enter SCSI disk mode, instead it just stays at the blinking insert disk icon.
I tried the same cable setup with the PB 160 and 170, and they both work flawlessly. Is the...
Update: I took of the LT1171CQ IC and now it works. Sort of. It chimes, but it only gets to the white screen without a cursor or insert disk icon...
There is, however a nasty whine for a few seconds when I plug in the adapter.
I got a Duo 230 in unknown state. When I powered it on, it worked, but it was unstable. I then examined the capacitors on the board and found that every one of them was leaking, so I replaced them. The Duo turned then on and it worked for a half an hour or so, but when I tried to power it on...
