It's a 5GB drive...and I also just found 9.0.4 and 9.2.2 install discs. The 9.2.2 disc doesn't work in the Kanga though, it says it will only work in an iMac.
That would probably work given the way that OS9 works. That being said, installing a new hard drive in a Kanga is a complete pain from what I've read in the service manual.
Is it unusably slow? My Kanga is maxed out at 160MB RAM and like all Kangas is a 250MHz G3. Also, what is being emulated by XPostFacto? I don't have a good understanding of how it actually works to allow unsupported systems like the Kanga to run OSX, so I'm unclear on whether hardware on a newer...
My problem is that I don't have OS9.1 install disks, so wiping the hard drive and partitioning is not a viable option. My plan was to just install OSX10.2 of some sort right on top of OS9.1. My understanding is that this is doable and I can just switch between System Folders using the startup...
It was a place called Wegner Media or something like that. The battery isn't an OEM Apple unit but it should work since all the PRAM battery is is a few standard cells stuck together.
Thanks for confirming. I figured that's what it was doing. I also thought the PRAM battery was dead, but after leaving the machine plugged in for a week it is now keeping time properly and will boot from battery after being left unplugged overnight. However, if the computer is put into sleep...
Another question...I have two Kangas, and the one with 64MB of RAM boots noticably faster than the one with 160MB of RAM. There's a noticable pause between the power-on chime and the "happy mac" on the 160MB unit, but not nearly as long on the 64MB unit. Both are running nearly identical...
Based on the other Kanga I have, I've determined that this one's issue has to be the backup battery. One Kanga boots from battery and keeps proper time. The other one does neither...which leads me to believe they're related issues.
Exactly what I needed to know. Thanks. Another question...is there any compelling reason to install 10.3 or 10.4 over 10.2? Kangas apparently have some issues with 10.3, and the XPostFacto site doesn't indicate whether 10.4 is supported at all on Kanga.
Yeah as far as I can tell it's the most recent browser that will run reliably on OS9. It should definitely run well on your iBook...it runs at acceptable speed on my 250MHz Kanga. I would recommend upgrading the RAM in your iBook though. The 160MB I've got in my Kanga makes a huge difference.
As far as browser choice is concerned, I've got IE5.1 and Netscape 7 running on my Kanga. Netscape seems to work a bit better and has fewer problems with modern websites.
I've been reading threads on this board about XPostFacto and reading the program's FAQs since I want to try to put 10.2 on my Kanga. However, I am unclear on whether I can just install OSX alongside OS9. Is it possible to have both system folders on the same drive and just switch between them as...
It's got 160MB of RAM and is running 9.1. I have allocated 50MB of RAM to the program (it recommends 5), so I don't see any reason why it would run slower than an 040 of any kind on a 250MHz G3. I'll try a clean install, but there's not really anything to install since it's just the application...
Anyone remember this one? It was a great entry in the Maxis "Sim" series of games back in the 90s. I found an old CD copy of it and installed it on my Kanga PB, but it runs too slowly. I find this extremely odd because I remember playing it back in the day on 68040 Macs at reasonable speeds. Any...
For almost all intents and purposes Kanga and the 3400 are the same thing. Almost all parts (including the backup battery) are the same. The 250MHz processor isn't as slow as I would have thought either, and it would make a great simple productivity computer with the addition of a USB card and a...
It's been left plugged in for several days and exhibits the same behavior (and consistently loses date/time settings, which is pretty much a guaranteed sign of PRAM battery failure). Considering how old the Kanga is I'm not surprised at all that it needs a new one. I located a new replacement...
One more problem...the battery holds a good charge, but the machine won't boot from it after sitting unplugged for a half hour. However it will boot from the battery if I unplug the unit, shut it down, and then power it on again. Both this and the other Kanga that I had did the same thing. Could...
