    Quicktime being stupid on Pismo

Thanks John, VLC plays 'em fine :) Just wish it wasn't such a slouch in loading time ::)

    Replacing Powerbook HDs

That would be it; amazing how quiet the bugger is. I would totally put it in any fanless-or-otherwise-quiet PowerBook, just to complete the silence :)

    Replacing Powerbook HDs

Just an FYI, the 30 gig that I yanked from the Vaio is an IBM Travelstar; and it's deathly silent. Unless it's reading or writing, you'd think this thing had an SSD in it. Add that with the fan never coming on, and you have an epic writing machine or just overall very quiet laptop :D

    Replacing Powerbook HDs

As far as PowerBooks go, so long as they're IDE inside, you can use any bloody drive you like. I yanked the 30 gigger in my Pismo right now out of an old Sony lappy :)

    Power mac 6500

Yuppers, I surf with mine. When my G4 pooped out a few months back, I used it as my main machine for a month or so; works like a champ. Max out the RAM, pop 8.6 or 9.1 on there, and surf away with WamCom 1.3.1. I love mine; great machine. Still relatively modern enough to get some things done...

    Quicktime being stupid on Pismo

Okay, so as you may know, I've upgraded this bugger a bit. Here's its specs now: G3/500, 512 megs RAM, 30 gig HDD, OS X 10.4.11 It's a very happy machine, except for one thing; it won't play quicktime movies. When Tiger installed, it played the intro movie fine without any hiccups, so I *know*...

    eeemac

I knew Moto had some issues with getting the G4 speeds up a while back, but that's a little extreme ::) Megahertz myth or not, my 500MHz G3 will eat your 70MHz G4 for breakfast ;)

    Pismo! :D

Heck if I can remember, I've been passing them through machines for years now. If you want 'em, PM me and I'll zip 'em up and e-mail them to ya. There's about 15 different colours :)

    Pismo! :D

Just an update, I found out that the Pismo can use PC133 RAM happily, so I upgraded it a bit courtesy of the old VAIO that's been hanging around here: http://i37.tinypic.com/30usrrk.png This is an amazing laptop :D

    Mac SE without a fan?

It does indeed run cooler. But think about it; the old 8MHz Macs with no fans had hella ventilation, and they still suffer the ill effects of overheating. Your SE has none of those vents, so with no fan, it would suffer worse. I'd just get a quieter fan if it bothers you that much; don't run it...

    Pismo DVD Drive and CDs

Popped the bugger out, shot it with compressed air, shot a little air inside the machine, popped out the tray and gently sprayed in there a bit, popped it back in, and boom! That and some gentle percussive maintenance (slamming the bugger a time or two) got it going great :)

Nevermind, some 'persuasive techniques' managed to get it working fine :)
