I'll throw in another vote for 7.6.1; 8.1 is a bit much for any 68k aside from a late quadra; you're really better off sticking with System 7. Faster, and still does 99% of the things System 8 will do.
Awesome! I love the Classic II; it's a great little machine. Best thing I can suggest is to slap the full 10 megs of RAM in there, load 'er up with System 7.1, and watch it fly! If you *really* wanna go for extreme speed, find System 6.0.8L and stand back.
Just another one of those curiosity threads, but who has actually managed to use all the ports on their 'Book? I just managed it a little earlier, and things got a little scrambled-looking :p

They are:
Power - All...
Static from the speaker usually means the caps are starting to go form my experience; might wanna take a look at the buggers. Nice one though, I've always wanted a Quadra.
G4s in (most) any form are great machines. I'm still rocking out with a dual 500MHz G4 tower as my main desktop, happily chugging away at Leopard. My main portable is also a PowerBook G4, running Leopard like a little champ. So yes, I'd say you can expect a good, long life from your G4. Enjoy :D
The antennas on the PBG4 depend on whether it's a TiBook or an AlBook. The Titanium PowerBooks had the antennas in the body of the machine, and all the Aluminum PowerBooks had them under little plastic cutouts on the sides of the screen.
Jeebus, a 20" lappy... I suppose some people find a vaguely-portable desktop rather handy. More power to ya if you do.

Hee-hee, that's what I did with my Pismo. If you clean out the gunky tape (it just peels off if you're careful and patient), it makes a great storage compartment. I've gotten many interesting stares as I pop out my "battery", open it up, and pull out my thumbdrive or earbuds. It's really quite...
Bah, there's nothing wrong with saving too many old Macs, so long as you use and (lovinngly) abuse the buggers.
Nice score on the iMac; I always liked the ruby ones. What are the specs of the machine?
Most laptop speakers leave something to be desired, especially consumer-grade ones. I've not listened to an iBook in a good while now, but I know that the speakers in my old MacBook were good for "casual listening" as His Steveness would say.
That would be it. I just really don't need that much power while I'm out and about. I have four criteria for my ideal laptop:
1. It has very good battery life. I don't like carrying the power cord.
2. It runs Mac OS X, because I'm used to it, all my apps that I use are for it, and its feature...
I just got myself a 12" PowerBook G4! It's part of my plan to redo my computer setup here; right now I have a dual 500 G4 tower as my main desktop, and a MacBook as my main laptop and power machine. Since I really don't need a powerful computer when out and about, but I do need one at home, plus...
Yes, you can. However, as has been mentioned, it will only work as an 800k drive. I replaced the original 800k mechanism in my SE with a superdrive (I've got a gazillion hanging around) and it's been working just peachy :)
Yes, that's the logic board. There's nothing soldered to it, but it is held in by a series of gouge-your-eyes-out annoying metal bumps on the right side (if you have the SE down on its face with the bottom facing you). They're a pain to get up, but you'll eventually learn the trick to 'em and it...
