Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
Yep, I'm pretty sure the motherboard swap will work with no issues - the 6200 to 6500 boards can be swapped between machines and will still work fine. Not sure about the RAM, perhaps someone else can shed some light on that...
I'm not terribly fond of sites like Facebook or Myspace as they just all seem to be clones of each other and are often devoted to complete drivel. I'm not saying this would happen with a 68K site though, but I have seen other good forums and websites being wrecked by getting turned into Myspace...
When you say "stopped booting" do you mean it chimes and then doesn't light up the screen? If this is the case then you'll need to replace the PRAM battery as this has to have a decent amount of charge to start the video. You can also get around this by switching the machine on, off then on...
It is possible to build a IIGS RGB to SCART cable for attaching to a SCART socket on a TV. I made one for my IIGS and it works well with TVs and SCART monitors. Here's a site that explains how to do it: http://vintageware.orconhosting.net.nz/apple2/scart.html
The only issue is geographical -...
Definitely worth grabbing that IIsi! Any old Mac like that should be saved in my opinion.
That's nothing, I know a guy who managed to transport a Superbrain home on his bicycle. Just take plenty of bungees and make sure the base unit and monitor are well fastened to the luggage rack / panniers.
I did once try my Orinoco/Lucent Gold card in my Newton 2000 and the drivers didn't want to work for it either. I can't remember what the error was but I'll have a look this weekend and see if I can get any more information from it. Certainly the card works perfectly and is of the correct...
A common enough mistake, in the tech/computer world, bigger numbers tend to mean better - except in the case of access times! This caught me out for a little while too when I started fiddling with Macs.
The purpose of the "Firewire port" was debated quite a bit in the last thread about the PenLight. I would reckon that it is either a miniturised video-out port or some kind of debugging serial port. Perhaps it could even be an experimental peripheral interface, but as mentioned, this wouldn't...
Woo, this time of year again! Count me in, I'll send in my entry once I've thought of what I want to do. Hopefully I can get the organ involved somehow...
Love the RC page btw.
If you do find leakage it can be cleaned off, either by using some kind of cleaning alcohol like isopropanol or brake cleaner along with cotton buds; or the more drastic approach of washing the main board, (with SIMMs and battery removed), in a bowl of soapy water or a dishwasher. If using the...
I remember I saw the eBay auction for this and was rather tempted, but it went for way more than I could afford! Pretty nice looking little dvice, it's a pity that Apple didn't market it. Can anyone see soemthing like this appearing again in the near future? iFrame..?
I would agree with that, there's been a handful of times when I've toasted things, (or myself), due to lack of concentration through tiredness. Even just taking a break or leaving something until the next day can make such a difference.
Looks like he did it quite responsibly to me, plugged it in and then turned it on at the wall instead of with the switch on the back. Electricution is only a risk if you're actually handling the machine itself while it is on but otherwise is not a problem so long as you are careful and know what...
Welcome! That is an amazing collection of PowerBooks you have. I have a particular liking for PowerBook as well and have collected quite a few models over the years, but not nearly as many as yours.
It could be a problem with the power adaptor connector. Try plugging it into the back of the machine and giving it a gentle wiggle about and try to switch the PowerBook on. The connector pins have a habit of bending slightly which can cause contact issues - I've had to straighten the pins on my...
This seems to be the day for it! I'm going to refer you over to a thread on the RetroMacCast website that has been covering exactly the same problem with a 165c (architecturally very similar to the 160): (link)
