Does anyone know what this is/does?

It is a diagnostics / fault finding tool. Basically an Apple tech would attach it to a problem machine via SCSI or serial (I'm not sure which) and then could run a variety of tests on the machine to try to locate the fault. From what I've heard, there are several ROM sets for the Techstep which...

    Freecycle Performa 6320

They are always good. For a long time I've been using a Performa 5200 (+ 6400 mobo) with one of these video input cards, functioning as a monitor for games consoles.

    Mac Monitor for $5!

It really depends on what model of Mac you are using as many of the 68Ks are limited to 800x600 as their max output resolution. I think when I had mine running at 1024x768 it was actually connected to a PC, but I can't remember. Will have to dig it out and give it a try with a few different Macs...

Awesome liberation, or at least I think so!

Wow, very nice score. I'm surprised he was wanting so much for the 128K given that it looks like the 512K was originally a 128K anyway, and is going to be far more usable with it's larger amount of RAM.

    Mac Monitor for $5!

Nice one, those displays are pretty decent and are tough as old boots. Surprisingly enough it is possible to get 1024x768 resolution from them, which is good for a 15" monitor from that era.

    Freecycle Performa 6320

Well it's still faster than a 630... I don't know what the power issue could be, but with these machines it is generally a simple power-on with the keyboard job, not requiring any PRAM battery to be present. Perhaps try making sure the motherboard is properly slotted in so it is making good...

    Power Macintosh 7200/75

The 7200/75 isn't a bad machine, I've possessed two of them in the past and they were decent workhorses for playing about with. Both were eventually given away to friends and family but as far as I know they are still in service. It is interesting to note that the 7200 (along with the 7500) was...

    Freecycle goodies

Plug in the Duo Dock II and press the "Eject" key, and the 230 should be spat out like a video cassette. Very nice haul!

    Suggestion: actual challenges

This would be pretty good, so long as the challenges are reasonable in that an individual can tackle them in one month in their spare time. The skill level of contestants is pretty varied with some totally hard-core folks and some who just want to play games (like me). :) A variety of...

    "Monitor with built in computer"

The 5200 is a very under-regarded machine actually, because although it doesn't shine next to other PPCs of the era it is still a very functional workhorse in a brilliant all-in-one case, making it perfect for it's target at that time: the education market. I can see an era several years from...

    $50 G4 Cube!

Wow, that's a good deal. Cubes, even non-working ones, generally sell for around £100 in the UK.

    "Monitor with built in computer"

The sluggish 5200 can become a 5400 with a simple motherboard swap. My 5200 has a 6400/180 board in it and it is a pretty snappy machine.

    A System 6 Browser

MacHTTP isn't a System 6 browser, it is a web hosting application. Very popular amongst those with 68K web servers!

PB 1400c almost lifeless (Please move to correct section)

As far as I know the power manager (PM) circuit is built into the motherboard. It can be reset as above, and for reference here is the offical Apple guide on the subject: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1781 The symptom you describe is the "Green Light of Death" (GLOD), though often it is not due...

I'm new here, check out my Mac stuff!

Welcome! Looks like you've got a pretty good collection there and it is always worth picking up free Macs if they are available. But as for the stuff you tossed out in the past... 8-o Shocking! Lets hope that someone else liberated them before the dreaded landfill.

Suitable 10Mbps hub / switch for fussy network cards

I think I once read somewhere that certain network cards in some 68k machines will only function correctly on an ethernet network when connected through a native 10Mbps switch, rather than a 10/100 switch. This certainly seems to be the case with my IIcx and Asante NuBus network card, as it...

    TiBook 550Mhz GigEthernet

Seems a pretty good trade. My TiBook is exactly the same specs as the one you describe and it is a brilliant machine for general web surfing, iTunes and making videos in iMovie. I actually use an Asus USB wireless dongle for Wifi, which is pretty good but it can get in the way since the port...
