    Plus Mystery Port

It could possibly be a TTL video port for connecting an external monitor, as this connector was quite popular in the 1980's.

A conquest I've been waiting for for two years...

Wow that's a real bargain! I think I paid about £7 including postage for my Orinoco Gold card, but that was still quite a lot less than what they usually go for in the UK.

    Liberation of a new IIci

That is exactly what it is. The IIci represented the high end of the market at the time and when the IIsi was introduced later, Apple throttled the processor speed back to 20MHz so that the IIsi didn't eat into the IIci's market base. The IIci is certainly a decent 68K and is wonderfully easy...

    Replace Backlight with LED

I have often wondered if that would be possible to do, it looks like it is. Could be useful in the future for 68K PowerBooks with failing backlights.

    SE/30 : Simasi (bad capacitors?)

Certainly cleaning is a good "quick fix" but I agree it won't last for ever. Fortunately in my case I found another much better SE/30 so the one with capacitor issues has been mothballed for the time being.

    SE/30 : Simasi (bad capacitors?)

Before going for a capacitor replacement, have a look at the board and try to find any signs of capacitor leakage (it will look like Cola spilled on the board). If there is any, clean it off with some alcohol and cotton buds/Q tips or alternatively remove the battery and SIMMs and stick the...

    iMac G3 opinion

For most "normal" modern computing tasks, (web browsing, music, email etc), the 500MHz era G3 iMacs are more than up to the job and will motor along nicely with Tiger and a decent amount of RAM. $70 (c. £35) is a pretty average price for one of these at the moment so if it's in good condition...

    Colour Classic glitch

Now I think of it, that is a much more logical explanation. It needed replacing anyway and when the problem went away with a new PRAM battery I just assumed they were related. :p

    Colour Classic glitch

Another thing to try is replacing the PRAM battery in your CC. Worked for me when the screen on mine went green.

    PowerBook 1400 Wireless Issues

You will probably need to use a newer version of the Orinoco drivers with OS 8.6. Version 7.2 of the drivers is available here (at the bottom of the page): http://www.alksoft.com/personal/stuff.html

    Possible Conquest

I guess that is the honest approach. Sometimes in a situation like that though it is best to be cheeky and just rescue the Mac anyway, otherwise you may return later to find it's been crushed or buried under a ton of PC junk. It depends on the situation really though.

    What's a Quadra 700 good for?

Nope, sadly no CD ROM. It was still early days when the Quadra 700 was made so any CD ROMs have to be external units. The AppleCD 300e fits very neatly on top of the Quadra 700 tower.

    What's a Quadra 700 good for?

Good things about the Quadra: - Full 68040 processor - Two NuBus expansion slots - Built-in ethernet (though you will need a transceiver) - Mini tower design that can also be used as a flat desktop case Etc etc.

    Delicious tangerine!

Nice find, IMO the tangerine was one of the most attractive iMac colours. If the iMac was soaking when you found it then it would probably be best to leave it somewhere warm and dry for at least a week to dry out. If there isn't any water visible on the interior components then maybe just give...

    Freecycle Comes Good

Nice one! A good place to look for tape games is charity shops, I've scored dozens of them over the last few years for very little money. I always think of the BBC having a connection with Macs because when I was at school there was generally one BBC and one Mac (LC, Classic or similar) in each...

    PowerBook 165c

This is the second PowerBook 165c I've owned. The first one was given to me many years ago and I used it for a long time until I started getting problems with the display. It turned out that the display cable had snagged in the hinge and ripped, which is practically irreparable. In addition to...

A pointless question that keeps nagging at me...

With these PowerMac models I would tend to say "six one hundred" and "nine six hundred". Similarly for a 5200 I would say "five two hundred". Maybe that's just me...

    Laptop stuff

Yes it's the same at my work, the hard drives are pulled on redundant computers before they are scrapped to protect company data. It's pretty pointless to be honest as all company data is stored on the central server drives as a rule, meaning the only things on individual computers are the OS...
