    Favorite Keyboards!

If they support MIDI, then they really should count. ;) As with many other people, I love the IBM Model M. At least in it's early incarnations. The key switches are brilliant, it is built like a tank (not a truck, you insensitive oaf), and I like the removable cable. I'm not sure why the...

    Favorite mice

Favourites: my Kensington Turbo Mouse and trackpoints. I cannot stand trackpads. The decent ones are okay (e.g. PowerBooks), but there are a lot of shitty ones out there too. For mice proper, my tastes aren't terribly fashionable. I did like the hockey puck mouse, and the old boxy Apple mice.

Cripes, do things ever change in the Apple II world?

    Gearing Up for Summer

@arfink: Any particular reason why you need ProTerm on the Apple II? @gavo: Painful? You ain't seen nutin'.

    Another Math Blaster Plus

You need more than one copy if you plan on installing it on more than one machine.

    Gearing Up for Summer

After the past few months in a high-tech quagmire, I could use a month of vintage computing. Numerous projects come to mind: Getting an Amiga 500 on the Internet, first by using it as a terminal on a serial line to a more modern computer. Then via SLIP or PPP. If I feel very energetic, I'll...

Drive options: SCSI or USB 1.1?

Just a piece of advice: avoid both SCSI and Firewire. They are dead-ends and will probably end up costing more.

    my collection of vintage Mac

It looks like a great little attic workshop. :) (I can't read a word on that site, but there are some very nice pictures. So it's worth a visit.)

    Ditto!

For some reason, the subject line made me think of Ditto copiers. This is, after all, a vintage forum. Dittos were a type of copier where you typed (and you could probably write) onto special forms, wrapped that form around a drum, then turned a crank that transfered the image from the special...

    new 6502 computer, playpower

If it's based on the NES, the patents would have expired. So they're safe unless they are violating copyright laws. That would involve a straight out copy of the system boards, and firmware (assuming the NES even has firmware). As for the accompanying carts, as long as they aren't sold in...

    6502 in 2009

I've heard that systems like that are available all over the developing world, particularly in Africa and the poorer parts of India. I'm guessing that the main apeal of these machines is "free" (as in pirated) software since it really ought to be possible to make much more powerful systems at...

    80x80 restriction.

Yet, oddly enough, a lot of amazing artwork was done with that limited medium. That includes both icons and games.

    80x80 restriction.

Uh, it looks like a 32x32 icon that was scaled up.

    Sim Classic

Ahm. You are using very poor form for these forums. Proper form for these forums would be: Congratulations. Now you have some old games! :) After all, we care about the old and not the new. ;) Enjoy the games. That's a nice little collections. (I have a similar one for the PC somewhere.)

Attention all hands... 68kMLA Rules Update (2009-03-21)

It has already been said that this is not a family. I will also point out that this is not a private community either. Everything that happens in our "army" does not stay in our army. It is published to the world in a very public manner. Anyone who wishes to lurk here can lurk here. Anyone...

Attention all hands... 68kMLA Rules Update (2009-03-21)

It must have been the ESIAA (eBay Sellers Industry Association of America). }:) Regardless of why the mods decided to implement that rule, there is a need for a lot of us to adjust our attitudes. Maligning people over irrelevant things is a problem around here. Now I'm not talking about...

Attention all hands... 68kMLA Rules Update (2009-03-21)

Just to address the 10/15/20 year comment, yeah I will stand by it. I don't think that people have much of a concept of what the world of computing was like before the hard drive was affordable. What loading a program off a floppy was like, or saving all of your data to floppy, or (later) what...

A Notable Apple II / Mac donation

The IIe has a built-in self test. One website suggests that you access it by pressing control, solid-apple, reset (though I thought it was solid-apple, hollow-apple, reset). I'm not sure how indepth it is, but it may help you find the problem. Quite frankly though, the Apple gear sounds...
