Thanks to Tom Barber for providing an Audio file of the ST-225N and thanks to Old Crap Vintage Computing for allowing me use of their ST-225N photos. No one seems to have the Miniscribe drive though, so I will just leave that audio out and show some photos off the web instead.
I prefer System 7.1. I don't know why anyone would use 7.0.1, actually. System 7.1 gives you a lot of what 7.5.5 offers, just without the bloat and sluggishness.
If ROM thickness is 0.7mm too thin, why not up the copper? Not sure if that 1.2mm is measured from the outer edge of the front...
I'm not sure why BMOW used such a thin PCB in light of the fact that the IIsi and IIfx ROMs all fit perfectly in the SE/30 in terms of thickness, with no connectivity issues whatsoever. Meaning, if you make a ROM thick enough to fit an SE/30, it should fit those other Macs just fine too. Maybe...
I am currently editing a forthcoming video on the Apple Hard Disk 20SC. The SCSI drive mechanism I use with my 20SC enclosure is not stock, so I am curious about the sound of the stock drives. Would any of you 20SC owners who still have the stock 5.25" Seagate ST-225N drive (photo below) be...
Now that I ponder the DGHS's jumper table a bit further, it seems that only 3 pairs of pins are jumpered in order to select SCSI ID's 1 to 7. So it should be a simply matter of extending the wires of that Blue connector so it reaches the front of the drive.
I have a Hard Disk 20SC external SCSI drive enclosure that has a SCSI ID selector switch on back. Because I am using a non-stock IBM DGHS 4.5GB drive inside, I've left the SCSI ID select switch cable disconnected. But I am eager to change the SCSI ID on the fly.
Here's a photo of the drive...
Thank you for the explanation.
The main issue with the setup at this point would seem to be price. It would cost well over US$200 for the total setup (especially when you factor in shipping charges), and you still need the HyperDrive controller. I have one of those (and a working 10MB drive...
@Bolacore Great work!
What is the drive capacity in megabytes that you assigned? And did you experiment to see what the maximum drive size can be with the hyperdrive controller and software?
Thank you for the detailed reply. If you think I can contribute something useful while testing in my SE/30, then I would be happy to test. I can test in a stock SE/30, SE/30 with 3 different accelerators including the 40MHz Turbo040 (ROM rev.4.11), 50MHz 68030 DiiMO, and 50MHz socketed...
@pax
I actually don't mind the lack of ROM disk support too much in the Turbo040-patched ROM because I could just buy the ROM-inator II ATOM which doesn't have enough memory for a useful ROM disk anyway and use that with my Turbo040 SE/30. The big problem I have at the moment is the lack of...
First, I wish to thank @pax for bringing this thread to my attention. I currently am discussing here a caveat of the BMOW ROM that pertains to using a FloppyEMU in HD20 Mode alongside a Turbo040.
I read through most of the posts in this thread, and one fundamental question has remained.in...
I've been running more tests. All my floppy images on the FloppyEMU boot my SE/30 perfectly with the patched ROM-inator II MEGA and the Turbo040 installed. It's only the HD20 mode that does not work with the Turbo040 installed. This seems to give evidence that whatever patching the Turbo040...
Good news. I've just programmed the patched ROM to my ROM-inator II MEGA and I can now boot my SE/30 with my 40MHz Turbo040 (ROM v.4.11)! Yipee! Thank you for the patched ROM, @dougg3!
The patched ROM boots from my internal HDD with System 7.1 just fine, even without the Turbo040 installed...
@pax
Well, thank you for your kindness in watching my videos. I try to make videos I wish somebody else had made for me. That's also why my videos tend to run long. I love details! :-)
A big thanks for your help with the file naming. Much appreciated!
@pax
Thank you again for your quick reply.
Can I take your advice to mean that I can rename the extension of "olePigeonPatchedROM-normalchecksum_disabled.bin" to any of the following and program any of the following without error?
olePigeonPatchedROM-normalchecksum_disabled.rom...
@pax Thank you for your quick reply.
Your 1st link I already knew. Please note that on that page there is a USER MANUAL icon but no link to the actual user manual!
Your 2nd link is helpful for making ROM images. That's one of things I was looking for. Thank you for that link!
The biggest...
@Bolle Very kindly fixed my Turbo040 PDS accelerator, so I am eager to program my ROM-inator II MEGA with the above ROM. But it's been a while since I've used my SIMM Programmer and for the life of me I cannot find the documentation (USER MANUAL) for the programmer anywhere on the BMoW website...
Well, it is summer time now, so a wade through my videos might turn out to be quite cool and refreshing. :-)
I'm not sure which PSU and caps you gentlemen are speaking of regarding hot glue, but if you wade through my videos, you will see me selectively use hot glue. It's more important on...
Thank you, @Byrd. Mark J. of MacEffects really put a lot of love into his masterpieces. As mentioned in my video, even Apple recognizes that effort, showing the case, albeit indirectly, in their secretive lab at WWDC 2020.
The hot glue you see me use on the clear speaker in my video is the same...
