Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
You should. Because if the headphone jack audio is fine, as you said, then I don't see how it could be an Analog Board problem. After desoldering that 2-pin connector, make sure there is no corrosion on those 2 pins on the motherboard or in the mating connector coming from the speaker. If all...
Don't clean it off, neither the suction cup or the red paint on the CRT. Why not? For the very same reason that red paint is on there in the first place. A sticky cap will repeal the arcing more than a dry cap, with or without the red paint on the CRT.
I hear a hard drive spinning in your videos. Power off, disconnect that, then power on. Does the display look exactly the same?
Next, there is a 4-wire cable that connects the CRT to the top left of the Analog Board. With the power off, check the metal terminals inside that plastic connector...
Please let me know your thoughts on these AMP 822113-2 dual-sockets (30-pin).
For the life of me, I cannot find the AMP drawings or schematics. The Length is probably right, but the Width is wider than the stock sockets, or at least it would seem when looking at the EBAY listing photos. If...
Thank you for the link!
I still feel that the stock dual sockets will offer more resilience against solder joint cracking and offer less strain on the socket legs over time than a single socket, especially if you swap RAM often. But it seems the dual socket kind are no where to be found.
True, but it could be that Apple deliberately choose dual sockets to ensure the user wouldn't apply too much pressure and break the solder joins on the pins. With a single socket, all the force will be applied to its pins only. With the dual sockets, that force is spread across two socket's...
Thank you for the EBAY link. They look very nice. I love the metal tabs. Sadly, they are not the type for the SE/30 though:
EBAY RAM SIMM Sockets:
SE/30 RAM SIMM Sockets (spaced apart) as shown on my motherboard:
After reading through your other thread again, it seems you are referring to the JAMECO chips when you talk about "no notch or dot." I found this one photo in that thread:
It's very low resolution and blurry, but I can make out a round indentation in the upper left, which would indicate pin-1...
I just don't understand how some of you get the 2MB ROM to work. I tried everything, including multiple motherboards. I even added solder to each pad on the ROM SIMM. Nothing -- I mean NOTHING -- worked. Then Zane shipped me the 8MB version and it worked just fine on the first try. I know...
I finished reading through your original thread and here are my thoughts...
1. As mentioned in my previous post, I strongly believe the Apple schematic to be in error with respect to the Vdd & Vss pins. See that post for the evidence which I feel proves it.
2. In your original thread...
I am in more need of fixing broken RAM SIMM slot connectors due to those infernal plastic tabs breaking off! Have you ever replaced the SIMM sockets? Your video makes swapping the ROM SIMM slot look easy, especially since I have the same kind of desoldering station you do.
Also what is your...
Let's start by considering this, noting the BLK & RED pin markings I've highlighted in YEL seem to conflict...
Pin markings on the JAMECO/Siemens Datasheet match the Micron data sheet, so we can be assured those two chips are the same and there are no labelling errors. Those data sheets...
Thank you for your experienced input. I certainly appreciate that. That JAMECO web page you linked to is exactly the one I mention in my previous two posts. That chip is show in the JAMECO/Siemens datasheet as this:
The above looks pin-compatible with the Micron MT4264 (which I linked in...
No replies after 24 hours indicates an "I don't know" scenario, so I decided to search the forum for an hour and found this 2016 comment by Uniserver. It was his personal opinion that all the Apple logo RAM chips were just waiting to die and he didn't feel that selective replacement was a good...
Did you also run before/after Speedometer 3.06 and/or Speedometer 4.x scores too? I get the same before/after-jumper scores in both of those.
NOTE: I have the older model GREEN colored TS Adapter, but that shouldn't matter. I added the jumper across the correct 2 pins. I tried two different...
A viewer of my YouTube channel recently asked me about a Sad Mac Error code that he is seeing on his Macintosh 128K: 047A80
It would seem to be RAM related as per this:
To identify the individual bad chips, we use this...
Unless I am in error, the 7A80 part would seem to indicate 6 bad...
I shipped my SE/30 motherboard to @Bolle (in Germany) and in January this year he found it was the VROM. He shipped the repaired board back to me and I can confirm his fix worked.
Here's what he told me...
Hm, the video ROM on your board definitely has flipped bits:
On the left is a valid...
