I bought a TAM new in box. I forget the price exactly -- either £1,001.01 or £1,000.01. I took it home, opened it with the camera handy and made sure the TAM was healthy.
I open it up from time to time to check its health and give it a quick run. I have a stack of upgrades for the day when I...
Err, HFS+ is pretty nifty. For video editors, it was a must have upgrade. For the rest of us, it was interesting and we upgraded when it was necessary.
I suppose that one of the reasons that Mac OS 8+ is under utilised is that there aren't many resources for maximisation. Gamba spent an...
The guy from whom I bought my Lisa 1 had a spare Lisa 1 bezel and a couple of NOS twiggy drives in service bags. He was planning to sell them at a later date but I never heard or read about it happening. So there may be a Lisa 1 bezel etc in a garage in Lincolnshire...
I'll see what I can do. I'm just back from a long holiday with a few thousand photos to categorise. I don't have a job or income, which needs to be corrected. My ISP has fouled up my primary mail box. I have lots of stuff to sort out.
But I looked at a BMC monitor two minutes before I posted my...
In the UK, Apple was pretty determined to take them all back to stop hackers getting hold of them. Some would have been reused but most would have been dumped.
Around about 1988, Apple UK ran a generous upgrade option campaign for 128/512 owners -- so I guess that your Mac is one of them. Is...
Buy the PS upgrade for the HP printer and make life easy. From distant recollection, the duplexer does not run well in a heavy volume environment but it is great for SOHO work. If the printer or duplexer has been resting for a while, the rollers may be flattened so paper handling may be poor...
The ability to create 400KB disks is a system software feature, of course. Apple's floppy drive always supported GCR 800KB disks so it can do 400KB disks.
If you don't have a Mac that runs System 7.5.x -- the safe max for dealing with 400KB floppies -- you can try making later system software...
Coming from the cold, wet bits of the planet, I've blown up a few barn resurrections by turning on the power before they have fully dried out. You have to be patient and let a computer sit in warm space for days before you use it. I have learned the hard way.
Regarding dust or fluff in system...
That is indeed a BMC monitor. I own one like it although the smoked perspex panel just covers the screen rather than wrapping around. I bought it with a Europlus clone in the UK.
I presume that your working configuration uses 8 or 9 chip SIMMs. High density two or three chip SIMMs will cause checkerboards or random crashes. Different SIMM sets may have varying power consumption but not normally sufficient to require psu adjustment.
To improve startup times for the Plus...
I've got one of those in the SE/30 stash pile. I believe that you can increase the VRAM by adding ZIP chips if the board is not already fully populated.
The Micron Xceed is unique for its greyscale option but your card is a good find. Lapis were accomplished video card designers.
That must have been one of the last drives manufactured by Jasmine. Note that the mechanism is a MiniScribe and looks like it was the original equipment.
From March 1989, Jasmine and Rodime (their disk OEM) were at legal war which contributed to the demise of both companies. My understanding is...
The Houdini DOS card is a snug fit in the 6100 so the processor will get hot and heat the Mac logic board. Another consideration is that the 6100 power supply is not very generous and some were unreliable when new.
On the cache SIMM question, larger SIMMs were available from third party...
I just had a quick look at two Pluses (UK sourced) and both have the "Macintosh Plus 1MB" label. One of them is definitely Platinum and a very late model. I know the bloke who sold it although the company and sales records have long disappeared. My recollection is that it shipped with 1MB...
Don't do it. You will be disappointed by the results and you've already got a "fast Mac" with your Quadra 700.
You are probably familiar with IIsi video options:
a. PDS to NuBus adapter plus any low power consumption NuBus video card.
b. IIsi PDS video card that is designed for low power.
