The price won't come down. Manbu is of the opinion that since he's the only source, he can control the price. So far, he appears to be correct.
That said, he's been criticized in the past for not responding well to queries... so a responsive Manbu is great news, after all!
Yup, you'll need RocketShare to run the Rocket in the 950. (IIRC, same thing for the IIfx... I don't think you can use the Rocket as an accelerator in the IIfx, but I don't have a source to back me up.)
to clarify a bit: the cards themselves are *physically* non-standard, but they way they talk to wireless networks is 100% standard. No silly "Turbo Mode" incompatibilities to worry about.
That's a very nice 630 Dana!
The Valkyrie video chip isn't the hottest thing around, but it does have a nice hardware scaling feature. I've always wanted to play Marathon with LC630 acceleration turned on... what's it like?
Worth: I was one of the nay-sayers about how you wouldn't get your socks kicked off by the speed of 3d games on the 6500 even with a G3 and video card upgrade, but I didn't mean at all to discourage you from doing it! Don't let forum posters get 'ya down. ;-)
Matrox: I've been wanting to get...
Basically, you can put anything in that 6500 you want: Voodoo5 or Radeon 9200 would be the popular choices, with flashed Voodoo3 or flashed Radeon 7000 being cheaper options.
It's not going to be rocking fast no matter what you do.
:-( That's slow. I guess you could still do RAID 1, but the CF cards are going to die less than the hard drive would anyway, so it's kinda silly.
Thanks!
Does the Clamshell iBook have two IDE interfaces, one for the CD and one for the HD? Also, what's the speed of the Clamshell's IDE interface?
(I've read that the chicklet iBooks have only one IDE interface, thus the question.)
If they have two interfaces, has anyone ever tried hooking a master...
I could try it, but I don't have a 6100 kicking around. Also, without an oscilloscope to view the timing signals in question, I wouldn't be able to get nearly as far with it as someone who did.
Lots of chips on the Dark Side just have one clock input, the font-side-bus input. Then they've got a multiplier input that tells them how much faster than the bus to run. I was hoping the PowerPC 601 would be like that, but it's a little more complicated.
Any ideas?
Hokay... the PowerMac 6100/60 has a 30MHz crystal oscillator onboard, which means it's suppling the bus clock. Page 488 of the PowerPC 601 Users' Guide (http://stuff.mit.edu/afs/sipb/contrib/doc/specs/ic/cpu/powerpc/mpc601.pdf) makes it look like BCLK_EN controls the core/bus ratio by...
I'm considering a crazy 6100/Portrait Monitor project and would really like to run my G3 upgrade on at least a 40MHz bus. I know there have been a (very few) few 6100s overclocked to run at 100MHz or more, so it seems likely enough that I could get 40 or more out of the bus... but I don't want...
