Good point on the SoG. Some LCD monitors do support SoG, though I it think it is mostly the higher end displays.
I think the portrait displays just use a Mac display connection. According to the manual for my IIsi the onboard video supports the 15" Apple Portrait display.
I wonder if some ReEdit Kung-Fu might work here. There were portrait monitors that had a non standard aspect ratio. So it must be possible for it to work. I would think that it would be possible with one of the high end NuBus video cards.
The museum here is actually pretty good. It is in its own suite in the build and they have lots of systems in it. It actually setup like a museum, with displays and descriptions.
They have a few neat systems. A Data General NOVA, a PDP 8 , above mentioned CRAY and SGI Challenge, and of course...
Every time I go in the computer works I am tempted to ask them if they have any old Mac in the back. I'm trying to keep from going collection crazy again so I have not asked.
Though when I was in there I noticed they had an SGI challenge and a Cray EL they are looking for someone to get...
For the past year I have been trying to get Compact Flash card working in my IIsi. I've tried several cards with out any luck. Most would fail to format and those that did would not boot.
Today I stumbled across a IDE to Secure Digital bridge, that coupled to a ACARD 7720U IDE to SCSI bridge...
I am trying to convert my IIsi to run off of a compact flash card via an ACARD IDE->SCSI bridge.
I finally found card that I am able to format using FWB Hard DIsk tools. I installed 7.5.3 on there and I just get the flashing ? when I try to boot from it.
I really would like to figure out...
Media shifting your music is allowed under the Fiar Use doctrine.
This is also covered by Title 17 Chapter 10 Section 1008 of the United States Code. Title 17 of the USC covers copyrights.
Also from the RIAA vs. Diamonds Multimedia Systems court ruling.
All this talk of aux inputs etc.
A few years ago I pulled factory stereo out of my truck which had a CD player. I replaced with with an old Pioneer tape head unit I had laying around, just because it had AUX inputs so I use my iPod or Siruis radio. So a small step backwards and for a huge...
Blackberry provides a free copy of PocketMac to sync with a Mac. I don't sync mine but I do use mass-storage device mode to copy files onto it.
For some reason I did not think any of the current Blackberrys provided 3G support. I've been waiting for the Blackberry Bold to replace my Perl. I...
Those LaserJet 4 series printers are excellent printers. With proper maintenance they will run to a million pages no problem. Plus parts and supplies are cheap for them. They also use 72 pin parity RAM that is fairly cheap now. It is great that you got the postscript model. It will work with...
Interestingly enough TTL monitors are still manufactured.

Though they don't support the correct sync rates.
Thinking about it I think an EGA monitor will be you best bet. Though I don't think it will work out of the box. The built in controls might...
Yesterday at the local Goodwill computer works I picked up a sealed box of 10 Verbatim 800k floppies for $3.00. These are prefect for the 512k I want to get going again.
They had a buy one get one free sale on media so I also got a sealed box of 10 Imation 1.4Mb floppies, but the great part is...
Yep flyback failure is very common on those displays. The new flyback I used was from a different manufacture. The original was an LG. The new one was the Chinese special of the week. I don't know if it was any better but it could not have been worse.
I had a B&W 17" Apple CRT display that had a failing flyback.
I bought a new flyback off eBay for about $20 and it took me about an afternoon to install it. Of course there are all of the normal electrocution warnings, but you need to be fairly proficient at soldering also. If you get the...
