    ThunderScan for Apple II

Today at the local Goodwill I picked up a ThunderScan for Apple II for $5 If you haven't heard of it, it is a scanner that uses an ImageBanger ImageWriter for the mechanism. You use swap out the ribbon cartridge with the scanner head...

    CF Card Hard Drive

A few years back I picked up a couple of the ACARD SCSI-IDE bridges for bout $20 each. At a local electronic shop I found an IDE-SD card bridge. Using that combination I put a 2GB card in my IIsi. One of the nice things is that it makes the system near silent. I wish I had more spare time on...

    An old Hackintosh

Back in the day I read a book about building your own Macintosh. I really wanted to build an SE/30 but I couldn't come up with the cash. Of course now I could build a 100 of them. Toys are much easier to buy when you are an adult with a job.

Greatest Tip Shop score EVER!!!!!!!!! Sage iMac DV+!!!

What are some of the other good computer resale shops in Austin? I've found Goodwill Computer Works and Discount Electronics. Discount Electronics isn't bad if you are looking for newer stuff. Though I am in the market for the more esoteric stuff. I've found Best Byte computers over of Lamar...

Personal holy grail... iMac G4 800MHz.

Personally I would just take a drill to the lock core, or maybe a cut off wheel. THose lacks are pretty cheap so a good carbide bit should work. If that doesn't work diamond drill bits and cut off wheels are very inexpensive now days. They'll cut through the hardest of steels. Failing that my...

    Akimbo PC.

I loaded Fedora 12 Linux on the system and attached it my HDTV. I have a Samsung 720p DLP set, which means I had to compensate for overscan. Figured this might be useful for overs in the future so I'll include the relevant xorg.conf info, so google will find it. Section "Monitor" Identifier...

    MacintoshClassicIIIColorTVp™ Hack

I've been thinking of picking up one of those pico projects to build a DIY heads up display for my car. Humm... $100 still seems a little steep.

    Why was Mike banned?

Ok I am fairly sure I am crossing a line here. I don't mean any disrespect, but I am going to cross it anyway. I've been apart of this community getting close to 10 years now. In that time I have always thought the moderation was fair. I am rather shocked to hear that Mike Richardson was...

    Akimbo PC.

Yeah I've been wanting to build a Mini-ITX system for years. They have finally gotten powerful enough that I can actually replace one of my larger systems with one. I really enjoyed this build. I might just build another one.

    Akimbo PC.

Akimbo was an IP TV service that folded back in 2007. When they folded they gave me back the money for the set top box and told me to do what ever I want with it. I decided to replace my HTPC with something more energy efficient. So I picked up an Intel mini-itx board with a dual core Atom...

Where to find Inside Macintosh and Tech Notes

I used to have the URL for where Apple keeps the PDFs of Inside macintosh and the tech notes. I can't find my bookmark and my google-fu is failing me. Anyone have it handy?

Interface information for 400KB Floppy drive

Well good news and bad news. I decided to take a look at the Developer Note for the LCIII and it states this. So the information I have for the SWIM and IWM is no good. But It looks like that might just be ok. Having access to the Raw Track data will be very useful going forward. So I am off to...

Interface information for 400KB Floppy drive

Well about the time I pulled out the soldering iron I realized something. If I want to understand how the drive works it would be much better to spy on it while the Mac is using it. So new plan. I have a good set of documentation on how to control the IWM and SWIM. So I am going to control the...

Interface information for 400KB Floppy drive

I did some research and found that the SWIM and pretty close to the IWM. I took a look at the Linux Mac floppy driver code and apparently a command is sent to the drive it switch it from GCR to MFM modes. I still don't have a 800KB drive, but I do have a 1.4MB drive. In fact I picked up a LCIII...

If you can't find a schematic following the traces and using a continuity tester should reveal the location of the fuse.

Interface information for 400KB Floppy drive

Dude you just hit it out of the freaking park. That is the most concise explanation of the 400/800KB drive I have read. Even the biography is an excellent source of information. Things are looking clearer now. I was going on the assumption that the Disk II and the 400KB worked the same way...

Interface information for 400KB Floppy drive

Wow guys lots of great information here. This exactly what I hoped would happen. Development work has stalled as I expected because of the Thanksgiving holiday here in the US. I did buy a printer over the weekend, so tomorrow evening I intend to get going again. My Arduino board arrived so I...

    VGA on Compact CRT?

My thought is that the existing Analog board would need to be scrapped and start over with a new one. The question is would the tube hold up to the higher rates. My understanding is that the gun is rated for a frequency range and will burn out if you go to far out side of those.
