Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
I'm not familiar with this specifically, but it's configurable using the 'Password Security' control panel installed on PowerBooks by default. The separate 'PowerBook SCSI Setup' and 'PowerBook SCSI Disk Mode' both warn that password security must not be enabled when using SCSI Disk Mode, which...
These will work in any Quadra with a PDS slot (your 650, 800, and 950 will all work.) The 'Quad 040' and 'Image 040' are basically the same thing, but the latter has an optional DSP board installed as yours does. It'll run the 040 at 40MHz with 128k cache. Any of the three lower (identical)...
I'm guessing the 700 adapter is a different part, though I don't know why it would have to be...
I'd love if the QuadraCache had worked as an 'accelerator' for this case. I had recently entertained trying to build a CPU socket based SCSI II add-on similar to the boards for Radius Rockets, so I...
It'll still be very handy if I ever find one of the compatible 040 cards. I had just hoped it might do more...
Maybe something in the pinout can point to how it's intended to function, or even lead to modification to expand its uses.
I've gotten around to testing this board, which is advertized as compatible with Daystar's 'Quad 040' or 'Image 040' CPU upgrades which otherwise consume the PDS slot. It presents what looks like a second 040 PDS slot above the built-in one. I bought it sealed in retail packaging, though I don't...
Nice find! It'll boot from a disk image file on the Macintosh SCSI bus, so as long as you have free space you should be fine. I imagine you could add an IDE ISA card and use a physical drive, but I haven't tried or heard of this yet.
You’ve mentioned the two I know of. The Composite/S-video version was made by Focus Enhancements; the DA-15 by Apple. Both will mirror the main display at whichever resolution/refresh you’ve chosen (the Focus Enhancements board appears distorted when not run in one of its supported modes.) Since...
Glad if it helps! Yeah, that was what worked for me. I haven’t tried to use it on anything else.
Take a look at the second link I posted; there is a bit where the author mentions using a 4 rom on 5 cards or vice versa.
I was able to flash a Mac 5500 back to Mac firmware using the Voodoo 4/5 flasher utility in Mac OS 9 (monitor connected to a Radeon, also installed.) It's avaiable in the top download here:
https://www.macintoshrepository.org/781-3dfx-voodoo-drivers-1-2-3-4-5-utilities-flash-roms
The process...
Oops, I misremembered. They’re just incompatible with PowerPC upgrade cards. Low End Mac does assert the PowerPC machines being slower with the dual DSP cards enabled, however. The quads may be a different story, and LEM could be inaccurate on this.
I’ve got a Thunder/24 with IPA board, and a PowerPro nearby. I’ll see if I can make the DSPs run, and if not we can see what drivers make the ThunderColor tick and try those.
Pretty sure the DSP extension only runs in 68k, same with the Thunder IV GX cards. It won't cause a problem to still be populated on the Thunder/24, just remains inactive. But if you can crack open the extension for the ThunderColor card, it may be possible to get that one to recognize the older...
Sorry, we're diving off on a tangent.
I think the Rockets do have 128k L2.
The proposal was to transmogrify the Rocket SCSI II board to fit in regular 040 sockets for host Macs. I proposed combining the Daystar slot-free adapter and the Sixty Eight Thousand RAID Warrior as an alternate path...
The IIfx itself, yes. But if this works, wouldn't we want to enhance other 030 models?
The 128k cache for 040s would perhaps be more desirable, and a 1x/1.5x/2x config would allow 25/33/40MHz models to use the same card. I'm trying to work out how to make it fit in multiple models though... The...
For the purposes of combining with an 030/040 socket adapter, the IIfx SCSI Bolt and RAID Warrior are precisely suited for this already. Both narrow SCSI II controllers on 030(IIfx) and 040 PDS connectors, and neither seemingly too complex (at least compared to the Nubus SCSI cards.)
I do have...
The PowerPro control panel here should work:
https://lowendmac.com/daystar/download/software/upgrades_powerpc601/
For a more vanilla experience with just a single switch, Apple's "Power Macintosh Card" control panel or "601 Processor Upgrade" control panel should also do the trick.
