Mac SE - Accelerating an accelerator

Thanks. I tried Norton Utilities and Apple Personal Diagnostics and neither of them gave me the FPU speed. They both list the CPU speed and the FPU type (but not speed). I might try TattleTech.

Mac SE - Accelerating an accelerator

Yeah, I have another one that’s much worse. The CPU literally catches on the little lip on the bottom of the SE chassis. Bending didn’t help, so I have a method of twisting it diagonally to line up the teeth on the side of the board LOL.

Mac SE - Accelerating an accelerator

By the way, I checked the data sheet for the PLC (EP1830-25CFN) and it’s supposed to be good for speeds of “up to 50Mhz”. So it’s looking good.

Mac SE - Accelerating an accelerator

So I decided to try it with a slower crystal in the second socket and it looks to be working. I couldn’t find any software that actually reports the FPU clock speed but I just benchmarked it and it came with slightly lower results using a slower oscillator in the spare slot. I ordered a 50Mhz...

Mac SE - Accelerating an accelerator

Hi. I've been experimenting with my Mac SE accelerators, and apparently you can upgrade at least some of them. I haven't tried any others, but I was able to bump the speed on my Novy ImagePro by replacing the processor, FPU, and the crystal oscillator (from 25Mhz to 33Mhz). This was...

Color SE/30 that Mac84 is working on

If I had a spare SE/30 that I didn’t mind turning into “an abomination” LOL, I would totally do this. Looking forward to the video. I think I saw one a long time ago where he said he would do it in “Part 2” but Part 2 never came.

Bizarre CRT bloom / wobble / shadowing on... all of my compacts?

Are both the bloom AND shadowing occurring on all (four?) compacts?

    Emac - switching power supply?

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, i wasn’t going to buy it if it can’t be turned on to test it. The seller wasn’t sure if it’s safe to turn on, and based on your reply it sounds like it might be risky. Thanks again.

    Emac - switching power supply?

Hey folks. Trying to buy an Emac on Facebook but the seller says imported and runs on 230v. Apparently it says 230v on the bottom. I would think it has a switching power supply so the writing doesn’t matter and it should work in the USA??

Macintosh SE and a HyperCharger '020 Accelerator

True, in this case you would be able to either use the logic board’s 4MB or the card’s 4MB. I don’t know about this specific 020 card, but the 030 cards that I have (all support 16mb with connectix virtual - not just as RAM disk but actual RAM) have a much faster memory bus and that offers a...

Macintosh SE and a HyperCharger '020 Accelerator

That’s what I would be doing. I had the same issue with an accelerator for which I couldn’t find a manual - it showed up in the driver but the RAM was zero. I moved jumpers around randomly, and the RAM showed up. A power cord extension would be helpful so you can just have the board outside...

Macintosh SE and a HyperCharger '020 Accelerator

Oops, I didn’t see your picture. Looks like you have a total of 7 jumpers right next to each other - that is what like 128 possible combinations? Ouch, I’d be looking for a manual of a picture from someone who has it in 4MB configuration.

Macintosh SE and a HyperCharger '020 Accelerator

It looks like your card is recognized by the drivers so I think the card simply doesn’t see the Ram. If you know the RAM is good, then I would suspect it’s your jumpers config. There’s usually a few sets of jumpers on these types of boards. I would look for the ones close to the crystal...

Thunder IV GX - What am I missing?

I think I figured it out. It looks like the card simply doesn't accelerate at monochrome color. I was running the basic Speedometer benchmark (which only does a monochrome test), comparing results and seeing no difference. But the 8 bit color test was almost a 4x improvement between toggling...

Thunder IV GX - What am I missing?

Hey y’all. I am having problems getting QuickDraw acceleration to work on a Radius Thunder GX IV. The card works fine, but it appears that the QuickDraw acceleration is always off. I got the QuickColor 3.3 control panel which appears to have an option to enable/disable the acceleration, but...

Mac II + Turbo 040 help

So I got the new EPROMs and tried flashing 3.07 but unfortunately it didn’t work either. I guess if I ever get a IIci, I might try it there to see whether it’s just a compatibility issue with the Mac II or the card is just broken. Since I can’t get this one to work, I got myself a 50Mhz...

Mac II + Turbo 040 help

The eproms I have, which match the original rom (AT27C010) are OTP (one-time programmable). They cannot be erased or overwritten.

Mac II + Turbo 040 help

Ok so I figured it out. It had some sort of ID check as part of the read process, and it was failing. So I just disabled it and it read the original ROM fine. I saved it off to a file (not sure how to determine the version).

    MicroMac MultiSpeed speed upgrade?

So I did some more research and I'm pretty much convinced that those jumpers don't have anything to do with the crystal frequency. I think the theory mentioned earlier was that jumper 2 was dividing the clock by 2. But I was able to find some (very blurry) pictures that show various configs of...

Mac II + Turbo 040 help

So here's an update. I flashed new 4.11 and 4.01 ROMs, and neither of them worked. Both of them produced a chime, but no video and the computer froze. I found a version 3.07 dump as well but don't have any more eproms, so I had to order a few more. My guess is it's not a ROM issue but rather...
