QuadraFPGA: HDMI for the 68040 PDS slot

I have one of those. I've never been able to prove that it's working properly. The difference in benchmark results are marginal to the point that they could be MOE, but I haven't been super methodical in my testing. Edit: it's also incompatible with my silicon express cards, which I value more...

    LCIII Repair

I assume you don't have another PSU to test, or you'd have done that already... I'd do the PSU. Stable voltages when it's powered up doesn't guarantee that it's turning on cleanly. Most digital systems* are somewhat sensitive to their various voltage busses going high in a somewhat synchronised...

How do you delete all Get Info comments on a volume? Error -412

Yes, that's all ringing bells! Long time since I've thought about any of this :D

How do you delete all Get Info comments on a volume? Error -412

Am I right in thinking that you'll also lose any custom icons if you do that?

"Power Macintosh Card" and "601 Processor Upgrade" - What is the difference?

I know nothing of the LC/II upgrades, but I can confirm that my 040 PDS (PowerPC Power Macintosh Upgrade Card) one only works with the "Power Macintosh Card" control panel. Edit: Name of the card.

Quadra 700 death chime with Powermac upgrade card enabled

I honestly can't remember if I was able to do it with the card installed or not, but it shouldn't matter, it's only if there is some existing saved configuration data that there is a problem, and clearing the pram in any case should ensure that is not so. I don't want to lead you down the wrong...

Quadra 700 death chime with Powermac upgrade card enabled

Thank you. I'd had a long day and was very tired, and should have read the whole thread more carefully before I posted, but I had no ill intentions! Unfortunately by the time Phipli brought it up the edit window on my post had closed so I couldn't go back and delete that part of it. Back to the...

Quadra 700 death chime with Powermac upgrade card enabled

I didn't tell anyone that it was cracked, I asked if it was. And then I edited my post as soon as I read it was chiming... The four diagonal lines into the corners of the package look very sharp on that yellow package compared to the blue one and it caught my eye. Honest mistake.

Quadra 700 death chime with Powermac upgrade card enabled

Yeah I skipped through the thread without reading it properly, and I'm tired, just ignore me :) Not the part about zapping the pram though - that's valid and is a thing with these apparently. In fact it's the one I bought from you that I had this issue with!

Quadra 700 death chime with Powermac upgrade card enabled

If you haven't done so yet, zap the pram... Do it a few times to make sure. If there was previously a card in the lower nubus slot it can prevent the PPC card from booting until you zap the pram. This is because any saved configuration data for that slot in the pram interferes with the...

A Word of Warning about IPv6...Don't be me lol

This is probably the root of the issue I had with my Cube: https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/g4-cube-becomes-unstable-when-ethernet-is-connected.38641/ I had assumed that it was a hardware level incompatibility, but ipv6 also makes sense as the router would have been set to prefer ipv6...

Cube Owners: Artmix VRM II available, slightly updated

Ok, I admit that calling it user error is a little harsh, but @Mikeyy00 was seriously pushing his luck IMO. When I did my cube a did a lot of reading and it seemed the general consensus was that the radeon 9000 was a risky proposition in the cube so I didn't even try it. With the lesser hardware...

Cube Owners: Artmix VRM II available, slightly updated

Why do you think that $50 for repair is unreasonable? It seems very fair to me, and I'd be positively grateful to have that option had I cooked mine through what would ultimately amount to user error. My cube has an artmix vrm (which has always worked perfectly) running a sonnet 1.8ghz and a...

I was using your post as context to inform OP that they can in fact use a quadra to browse at least one of those sites.

Boot Speed vs High Ram Count - Quadra 950

MR doesn't work on any 68k browser, but they have a 68k downloader client that works nicely: https://www.macintoshrepository.org/44146-mr-browser You obviously have to get it onto your 68k mac via something more modern. MG works pretty well on Netscape Navigator 2.x/3.x and I use it quite...

Problem running Mars Rising in SheepShaver - 'Couldn't open Sound Tool' error

OK, another update, I have figured it out why it wasn't working in 8.5, maybe it helps you... In 8.5, in Monitors and Sound, there was no output device available and testing the alert sounds just flashed the menubar. In the Apple Extras folder there is the old Sound control panel. I opened it...

Ok, an update: I booted my SS into 8.5 with all other settings left alone, and I got the Sound Tool error.

Problem running Mars Rising in SheepShaver - 'Couldn't open Sound Tool' error

I don't remember the specifics of the issues, but I gave up trying to use Sheepshaver on my MBP. It never worked as smoothly as the windows version for me. I remember playing one of the Escape Velocity games and being irritated by something that I couldn't get to work nicely, but it wasn't...
