No, I am in the UK.
Well, I have an update. I did the large folder duplicate and it worked fine.
I have some cheap wifi bridges/endpoints laying around that I use at work so I decided to try one of those. It's on a very short (about 15") ethernet cable.
With that it is running just fine. Been...
Thanks for your thoughts, I really appreciate it.
I am 99.99% sure it's just the ethernet. If the machine is just idling on the desktop with nothing running it will sit like that indefinitely, sleep and wake no problem, launch applications and go back to idling etc., but when I plug the...
I made a new post in the proper subform about this as I have been working on it; https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/g4-cube-becomes-unstable-when-ethernet-is-connected.38641/#post-417773
I discovered that it's some how related to the ethernet. I can launch every app on the drive...
In this thread; https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/unexpected-surprise-in-a-g4-cube.38554/
I noted I was having problems with the machine locking up with a spinning beachball and had attributed it to disk problems.
After a bit of tinkering I found out that the machine is actually rock...
I have the Artmix VRM installed and all good, got the cube online and launched safari, and got a few pages in and soft hang. As in it all locks up, but the gradual lock up with spinning beachball that comes with a failing hard drive. Something is not right with the SSD that I'm using. Seems any...
That's reassuring thanks!
I don't have much to go on to say whether it's a cube processor or not. The SG4K designation doesn't appear anywhere in Sonnets knowledge base or manuals that I can see. Cube processors are apparently designated on SG4C, but this old newegg listing shows the SG4K part...
Thanks for the warning, it's my first cube but I did a lot of reading before I bought it, so I know what the result of burning out the vrm is.
Impatience and the desire to tinker would not allow me to leave it alone until I got the new VRM!
I have tried to be careful not to do anything to pull...
Thanks for the comments :)
I made a usb boot of the tiger dvd and it booted off of that, so I hooked up a mini-pcie ssd>44pin>40pin and installed it on that, and it booted and ran fine but needed the sonnet firmware patch as it was showing 0Mhz cpu.
I had a weird false start when trying to...
Bought a clean cube a little while ago on ebay, came with a really nice boxed 20" cinema display, and I was really pleased to get one in nice cosmetic condition.
I have been struggling to get it to boot properly, I had to the point where it would boot an existing 9.2 installation to loading...
I have a soft spot for the 7100, I had a 7100/66 that saw me through university. It was already old at that point - I attended uni between 97-01 - but I was on a tight budget and couldn't afford anything newer.
Many hours were spent by me and a few of my flatmates playiing FA18 Korea, even did...
The slot loading dvd drive on my recently acquired cube was extremely sluggish to eject and would not inject fully without assisting the mechanism. I completely stripped it and cleaned and lubed the moving parts to no avail, and tried the trick to shrink the belt in boiling water that seems to...
No electrolytics on there that I can see...
Just to clarify, the power button works perfectly, not overly sensitive or insensitive, seems totally fine.
It's specifically the led that doesn't work when the shell is fitted...
I recently picked up a nice Cube, was holding out for one with good plastics for a long time, and finally picked up a good one. It needs a little work, optical drive is dead, no hd, but it boots.
One thing that has me stumped is the power button led. When I first turned it on, it started right...
Just recently got this machine up and running, been fine for a few weeks with intermittent use. Now it's developed a problem where pressing a key on the keyboard locks up the ADB - mouse and keyboard become unresponsive. If I reconnect both, then the mouse works again until I press a key on the...
I have seen a couple of differently branded clones with that same case, so I have no idea who the oem was. PowerCity and Computer Warehouse (UK retailer of the time) Manhattan - if you google either of those you should find identical looking machines. CW machines as as far as I am aware used...
I should have updated this thread, but I got another replacement PSU as the fan wasn't running in the first replacement and I was a bit skeptical of it, and the mouse in question now works properly on the 800.
I guess one/some of the outputs from the first replacement psu were marginal and that...
I bought another identical psu and the fan runs all the time, so I guess the first one is faulty somehow. I will open it up at some point and check it out.
I bought a used PSU (Magnetek 3390-20-001) from, I believe, an 8100 to replace the dead and unsalvageable PSU from a project Quadra 800 I have.
It all works fine but the fan didn't run at all during my limited testing.
Is the fan load/thermal operated on this PSU, or is mine faulty?
