Hootswitch, a (work-in-progress) Apple Desktop Bus switch

Has anybody tried the 2024b yet? I'm looking to get my order in and not sure if I should stick with the "A" version or try the "B". Thanks!

    SE30 Unboxing Video!

Looking forward to an update on the condition of that logic board!

Recapped my 128k analog board, now it turns on but the display won't show anything

Sounds like a video signal issue. Try reflowing the pins plugs on the logic board plug that goes to the analog board. Also worthwhile to try swapping logic to analog board cables with the 512k.

Repaired a Quantum 40 S full height drive with a stuck parked head!

I really like these drives - other than this potential issue which is a challenge across a number of drives and manufacturers they are pretty reliable. One note, I think this is actually a half-height drive, not a full-height drive. It is taller than the later third-height drives though.

What to put on a Raspberry Pi 3 to act as an intermediary for classic Mac OS to print to a modern Laser printer

I think there are other solutions now but I run Debian on a VM with a hacked version of Netatalk 2.2.6 (because 2.2.6 needed some patching) and CUPS (and have had this setup for years). That allows my Macs and IIgs to see my network printers as postscript printers (whether they speak postscript...

Hootswitch, a (work-in-progress) Apple Desktop Bus switch

I still have to order the pcbs but I sure hope these are as fun to build as ScuzNet! That was a treat! :)

Hootswitch, a (work-in-progress) Apple Desktop Bus switch

I think @LaPorta was just suggesting buttons on Hootswitch instead of a complex switching model (ie moving a cursor from machine a to b) - At least that is what I was thinking. Until I watched the video I wasn't sure how switching worked but it looks like you can change at the device or with a...

CRT Not working on Mac 512

Can you tell if the CRT is working, ie any static or similar noises? I would take a look at the analog board to logic board cable plugs and resolder them at the analog and logic boards. I'd also check each wire on the cable for continuity as well.

interesting retro 128k style 'Macintosh handy'

Or something AI would generate! Ie "Render me the first Apple iPhone"

interesting retro 128k style 'Macintosh handy'

What.. is.. it? Is it a one of a kind somebody made or is it a product somebody is still making and selling? I would love to know the story behind it. I'll have to see if I can translate the page when I'm on my pc (instead of trying to mess around on my phone (which is not a Macintosch).

Dove Marathon 030 accelerators for SE & Plus

I dont think that was the question. OP asked if anyone had ever done this TO ONE OF THESE BOARDS. I think the point was pretty clear, will this work or not (Ie will these boards support an FPU if a socket is added or was the socket left out purposefully because the underlying support wasn’t in...

Adding 8 slots to my Compact Mac

This is super cool - I haven’t ever seen these before. Seems like a potentially interesting way to add external video to the SE/30 using readily available NuBus video cards.

Mac Classic horizontal video noise/distortion after re-cap

I haven’t seen that before but I would still be suspect of the analog board. Even though the caps don’t look like they are leaking I haven’t ever seen a Classic analog they did have a lot of leaking caps (esp the cluster of brown caps). Generally not obvious until the caps are removed.

    Apple iigs

Did you recap the monitor as well? If so do you have a cap list? I have been meaning to do mine forever but haven’t gotten around to it. It would be nice to confirm I have the caps on hand first though.

    Terrible IIsi

I have no advice as that machine seems done and the logic board seems to have minimal useful parts for future uses but…. That was one of the best write ups I have ever read. You need to keep a journal of this stuff and publish it!!

    GCC HyperDrive HELP

Not helpful for your situation, but I also have a strong affinity for old hard disk mechanisms. If you are able to share some pics and information regarding your collection at some point that would be awesome!
