@LaPorta (I think) identified this as the modern version of the grease originally used on these drives. I’ve used it in a few drive rebuilds, and others swear by it:

I guess I wouldn’t write it off until it’s proven that 12 ohms is too low for that part of the circuit. It seems like not much is known about the EMM. I agree, 12 ohms would be too low for a purely digital circuit, but I’ve found that power/analog circuits are less predictable. For example, the...
I don’t know if I’d sign up for “PSU expert”, but generally speaking a power supply should be able to deliver their rated current (Amps) while maintaining their output voltage. Current is a “pull” (device draws what it needs) rather than a “push” (supply pushes some value). The problem comes...
I don’t know what the thermal limits of the G3 in the Lombard is, but modern CPUs have a maximum junction temperature (inside the package) of 100C or higher. Commercial grade parts generally have a ~85C ambient temperature limit. I’d say as long as you’re well under 70C you should be ok...
@bigmessowires sells the Wombat ADB-USB which does just that - you can connect USB keyboards/mice to old Macs, or you can connect ADB keyboards/mice to modern machines.
No problem! Be careful - the plastic wrinkles easily. Look for dark spots (corrosion) on the traces or obvious breaks. I think I used a multimeter in continuity mode to check suspect traces. The conductive paint can also remove the existing good traces from the plastic, so just try to bridge any...
Did you pull off all of the key caps and take the plastic layers apart so you could clean the contacts? Gently cleaning the contacts with an eraser can help. The other thing to look for is broken traces on the plastic layers. My 230 had a couple of breaks that led to dead keys. You can carefully...
Thanks for the feedback!
I don’t have a good battery, so I couldn’t test in that configuration. I did try touching grounded components (EMI shield, PCMCIA slot) with one hand while using the trackpad with the other, but it didn’t make any difference.
The fuse on the power board does have...
Still no progress on fixing it, but I’ve eliminated some things that aren’t causing the problem!
I installed a new SSD and did a clean restore from the Pismo 9.0.2 CD. Restarted and… same thing, trackpad responds for a minute and then stops. Interestingly, the mouse button doesn’t work either...
My understanding is yes, the YoYo will work:

I’ve not personally tried it.
Marginal power supply would be my guess too. Do you have a video of it shutting down while booting?
Do you have a PB 1400, 3400, or G3 (any generation)? The power supplies for those machines will work with a Duo...
It should work like that. Melkhior linked to a NuBus slot utility that should dump info about installed NuBus cards, and it probably worth using that (or something like it) to see if the card is even detected.
So I think what you’re asking is if you can:
1. Take the hard drive out of the G4
2. Connect it to a USB/IDE adapter
3. Connect that adapter to a USB port on the iBook
4. Use the iBook to install a clean copy of OS 9 onto the G4’s HDD
5. Put the HDD back into the G4
Correct?
If so, the answer...
This one looks promising:
https://www.analog.com/en/products/MAX682.html#product-overview
2.7-5.5V input, 5V output, just requires three capacitors and a resistor. I haven’t done a full datasheet scrub, but it looks promising.
Yep, that’s what I figured. I have a new mSATA SSD and 2.5” PATA adapter on the way. I’m also tearing it down to give it a good cleaning inside, lots of dust and debris. It looks like something might have gotten spilled on the keyboard at some point - there’s gunk under some of the keys and on...
I think someone already suggested this, but what about self-powering by rectifying from the video signals (as in your current design), and then using a boost converter to raise it to 5V? The current load looks really low, so it seems potentially feasible. I suppose you still have the uncertainty...
I just picked up a 500 MHz Pismo that’s in pretty good shape overall, other than the IBM HDD being dead (click of death, generally sad sounds coming from it). I was able to boot off of the 9.0.2 Restore CD, and everything seems fine other than the drive being dead.
That is, until I ran Drive...
