What battery voltage is reported when you charge using an external charger? What voltage do you read from the battery if you check it with a multimeter after charging with an external charger?
I’m wondering if the internal charger is stopping the charge early for some reason.
Be careful of the main flex cable between the two halves of the machine when you’re taking it a paper and reassembling it, and try not to take it apart more than necessary. There have been a few folks here who have damaged the flex cable during repeated disassembly/reassembly cycles while trying...
Googling for “104 thermistor” shows that would designate a thermistor with 100k ohm resistance at 25C, and you should be able to measure your existing one to get the dimensions for a replacement. The tricky part is figuring out the B value of the original, which describes the curve for how the...
@dv- Glad you got it working! It’s definitely non-intuitive that the IP stack only loads the first time it’s needed. I think there’s an option buried in the TCP/IP control panel to always enable it, but I can’t recall for sure.
Can you describe how/what you’re testing on the software side to determine if you have connectivity? For example, accessing an AFP server using AppleTalk or TCP/IP, accessing an FTP server, etc?
For the 270c - If the PRAM battery is dead (and it almost certainly is, unless it’s been replaced or rebuilt), try using the power button on the rear of the machine instead of the one above the keyboard. The power button above the keyboard is a “soft” power key that goes to the Power Manager IC...
IIRC, there are a couple of potential snags on the software side, even if the hardware and physical Ethernet link are OK.
1. I don’t believe the settings in the TCP/IP control panel are saved and applied until you close the control panel. I’d recommend manual configuration to avoid any DHCP...
My read on it is that they were worried about ESD damage. I’m sure the external ports have ESD diodes to protect the SWIM, while this approach would be a direct, unprotected connection to the SWIM. Fine if you’re careful, and don’t hot-plug anything. Not so fine otherwise…
Might also be worth checking those socketed parts, see if the contacts need to be cleaned or de-oxidized. Seems like flexing could cause them to seat in a way that does or doesn’t make contact properly, and I know others have had problems with sockets on other boards.
Edit: Or the SIMM sockets...
I have a vague recollection of someone on this board having a problem like that which was related to the SCC and serial ports - that earlier System versions didn’t test the SCC, but later versions did.
I think the intent of the screw was as a low-security method of keeping people from taking the cover off - basically no protection, but at least an inconvenience. (I’ve always imagined it was to keep kids in schools from poking around inside).
I just did a build and install of Netatalk 2.2.10 on a fresh Ubuntu 2022.04 install, and it went really smoothly. I had an existing set of post-install config files from a prior install, so that helped with the configuration, but the actual build/install process was pretty smooth.
Edit: I’m...
Did you ever post any notes on the EEPROM swap? I followed your 540c rebuild thread but don’t recall seeing it. I apologize if I missed it! I have a 520c with what I think is an intact (but dead) battery that is love to get going again.
