I don't know how common it is. But, they're 20 years old. I didn't do the other electrolytic on there, I probably should have but I was getting sick of working on it.
For the supercapacitor, I couldn't find any on mouser or DigiKey. The closest I could find is this...
Ah, interesting, thanks. When it shuts off in this way, it forgets the time and everything else. Which is why I suspected the bad capacitor.
Some more info: the restore disc is not the one that came with the machine, but the one I saved from my wife's original blueberry clamshell. So, as you...
I put the new one in, and after a comedy of re-assembly errors, eventually managed to get the machine back together. It still behaves the same: won't charge the battery (which is equally likely due to a bad battery), and shuts off when reaching the finder from the 8.6 boot disc.
But it's no...
I disassembled my iBook G3/300, and the PRAM supercapacitor was fairly yucky
I tried to put a replacement in but couldn't get the solder to stick well to one of the holes. In the process of trying to do that I brushed the side of the cap with the iron and ruined it, so I'll need to get...
The ftp server is still operational, so for now you can download it from there if you want to try it out. As far as a license goes, that's another story. I doubt they will take a $50 check and send you a license key now. You'd have to find someone with a cracked PPC version and PM them.
You can build a break out board: https://www.jasondoesitall.com/adc/
It’s on my TODO list for when the QS power supply inevitably gives out and I can’t run the studio display any more. (Or I might just run the QS with an ATX and the ADC with a bench supply. Or get a rebuilt power supply…)
There is (was) Macintosh UAR: https://web.archive.org/web/20051227185018/http://www.cs.mu.oz.au/appletalk/doc/MacUAR.userDoc.html
Runs fine on my B&W G3 under 8.6
Hmm, the MDDs that shipped with this card could boot into 9 so I just assumed it would work. It’s in a Quicksilver 2001 right now, so I should have ADC power. The DVI works fine in Mac OS X on the same machine so it’s just a driver issue. I can try some older ones, but it’s hanging even with...
I have a GeForce 4 MX that must have come out of a MDD (AGP with ADC/DVI). It boots fine in Tiger, but in 9.2.2 the screen turns black and the mouse hangs. I tried disabling extensions but it barely makes it that far. GeForce driver versions are 3.1, I don’t see anything newer available...
Some images from my early access CircuitTalk in my Sawtooth G4:
Perfect fit where the modem board was. The IDC routes under the motherboard, there’s a little opening right next to the airport card:
Installed in the metal shield the modem jack used to be in. Again there's a convenient place...
