I suspect the VGA port has failed on my HP monitor. Changed the cable with two other good cables. Won't even connect to my Mac Pro 1,1 and it also worked perfectly with its NVIDIA graphics card (currently have it hooked up to my 22" ADC monitor).
I don't have a DVI male-to-male cable to test...
Confirming that both the High-Res card and 8.24 GC card work with my 13" Apple monitor. I can't run my After Dark screensavers in anything better than 256 color mode on the 8.24 GC (they black out when the card is set to thousands or millions of colors), but at least its working.
Funny thing...
After successfully installing OS 8.1 using Gamba's instructions on another Quantum hard drive, I decided I missed System 7.1 and promptly reinstalled that HD back into my IIfx. I also decided to revive my 8.24 GC video card, now that the Sony power supply from my IIx has proven to be reliable...
8.1 is now installed on my IIfx. No muss, no fuss. Having a partition proved quite beneficial as I could perform the ResEdit hacks for OS 8 in System 7.5.1, install OS 8 in its dedicated partition, and then switch to the OS 8 partition using the Startup Disk control panel. No need for Network...
Sort of rethinking the value of System Picker. As noted in the first post, I already created a partition on the HD using Silverlining 5.7 - one for System 7.5.1 and the other for the new OS 8.1 volume (this was before I read Gamba's instructions). Won't the computer allow me to choose to install...
I ended up swapping the Sony power supply from my IIx. Seems to have resolved the IIfx's starting problem for now.
Returning to the core problem, I still can't mount and convert System Picker and Wish I Were 2.0. Stuffit Expander does nothing with those files and I've tried downloading both...
Power supply is an ASTEC unit, and while it has been thoroughly cleaned out, it has never been recapped. The board still has an SMD cap near the power on switch. No leakage as of yet.
I have two cards in the IIfx at the moment - my Apple PC 5.25" card, and a standard 256-color Mac Video card...
Confirming that the Network Access disk does work before turning on the IIfx.
On another note, my IIfx has been developing an intermittent power on problem. Sometimes, when I shut it down, and then turn it on from the keyboard switch, it chimes, stays on for a brief moment, then switches off...
I downloaded Disk Copy 6.3.3 successfully. I was able to mount the Network Access image file and access it. In the process, I also made a separate floppy for that program. Oddly, it does not show up as an option in the Startup Disk control panel. Am I missing a step somewhere?
Furthermore...
@cheesestraws I changed the Type to dlmg and the Creator to ddsk for Network Access Disk 7.5 - I still get "Application program that created it could not be found. Could not find a translation extension with appropriate translators."
Nothing. No dialog box; no activity.
Thanks, I'll give it a try.
When I still had my Wallstreet G3, I would connect it to my wi-fi modem by ethernet, make a floppy using my LaCie USB drive, and then transfer it to whatever 68k Mac I was using. All of my Apple laptops are long gone (brittle...
Revisiting this as I finally checked out Gamba's site, however I'm having problems expanding some of the software programs listed in the instructions with Stuffit Expander.
Thus far, I have successfully downloaded and unstuffed ResEdit 2.1.3 and the OS8-030 Patch onto my IIfx. For whatever...
Holy crap.
Probably. The plastics are still in decent shape; just some minimal yellowing on the top cover and some minor rusting on the metal shielding but nothing to get excited about. I bought a IIx on eBay awhile back and both the plastics and the shielding were in relatively the same shape...
Probably was/is, it's an ASTEC unit, but I thought it was recapped at some point?
Can confirm it is somewhat loud, almost the same as the fan on my SE SuperDrive. The winner in my collection is my HD20 which houses a 5.25" Seagate ST-225N and its equally audible fan (I think it's a Sony)...
I picked up a boxed, mint condition LaserWriter IINT over the holidays on the cheap. Based on the page count shown on the test page and the overall appearance of the unit, it was hardly used (only 4000 or so pages printed if the page count is accurate).
The only flaw with it, apart from it...
If and when I get my IIx running, I'll load System 6.0.8 and try out the PC drive. Both Varta batteries are dead and I need to find someone who can solder in some battery holders a-la IIfx.
