Running into another sound issue in Win 3.1, this time it’s with Chip’s Challenge in the Best of Entertainment Pack:
When I open MIDI Mapper in the Win 3.1 Control Panel, I get this error in Chip’s Challenge:
Not sure what is going on here. I really don’t want to mess with the MIDI settings...
Tried messing around with the video drivers currently installed in 3.1. The only one that works reliably and doesn't leave a garbled mess is VGA (Version 3.0). Hoyle was designed to run on 256 colors (first Sierra title to do so).
Adjust to what specifically?
So the sound for Hoyle Classic can only be heard through the IIfx’s internal speaker for some reason and only when the volume on the game’s controller is set to max. It’s horrendous to say the least. Color is still pooched. I wonder if I downloaded a bum copy of the game?
Yes. Here’s the entire package:
I would imagine so, but I can’t confirm where it is located in Win 3.1. The only thing that shows up in Drivers is all of the Sound Blaster/audio stuff:
I was hoping that wouldn’t be the case. The HD I have in the IIfx is a 230MB Quantum drive, which has never...
Just installed The Best of Microsoft Entertainment Pack so I could play FreeCell and Tetris on the 486, amongst other classics.
For some reason, I had a difficult time running Hoyle Classic Card Games on the IIfx. I have the original Mac disks (this is the 1993 version) and the program would...
Seriously LOLing at this thread :ROFLMAO:
Honestly, is it worth preserving a G3 iMac? I had two of those fuckers over the years: a slot-loading Graphite and the original Bondi Blue. The Graphite had very high hours on it (it was owned by some IT firm and there was significant burn-in on the...
Switched off virtual memory in Win 3.1 - not much free space was added (File Manager now states 14.8MB of space is available as opposed to 11.8MB). I have 6.1MB of usable RAM (Win 3.1 uses around 4MB). So something is hogging a lot of disk space - still need to look into that.
Not intentional of course. I wasn't sure what the 19,438KB value was referring to (although I figured RAM was involved somehow) but you've clarified that so thanks.
I'll look into disabling virtual memory and see if it frees up some disk space in my partition. Interesting tidbit - my Win 3.1...
What I'm attempting to figure out is why File Manager in Win 3.1 states I only have 11.8MB of memory left in my 50MB OrangePC partition. I only have 4 programs installed - DOS 6.1, Win 3.1, WP Presentations 2.0, and Sound Blaster 16 software for the SB-2770. I doubt those 4 programs are...
Fixed the sound issue by setting the master volume to max and increasing the gain using Sound Blaster's Creative Mixer software:
This is what the SB-2770 looks like inside the IIfx connected to the OrangePC card:
One thing I've noticed is the amount of hard disk space that has been utilized...
Bought a sealed (NOS in the box) Sound Blaster SB-2770 card. Worked out to just under $300 CAD with shipping and eBay's "tax." Came with all the original documentation and software on 3.5" floppies. It's designed to run on DOS 5.0 and above and Windows 3.1 (I have DOS 6.1 and Win 3.1).
The card...
Haven't done much with the OrangePC card in awhile. I'm currently on the lookout for a Sound Blaster card that's more in line with the 486 processor on the card (the AWE64 card I have works, but I agree with Byrd's previous assessment that the drivers are just too complex for DOS 6.1/Win 3.1)...
Uninstalled PP 4.0 using Microsoft's Office Manager. Kept the ClipArt images (they work in 3.0) and some templates. IIfx doesn't seem to be crashing anymore.
