    Good first Apple II?

How much time do you have? Heh. Here are my IIe's that I have loaded out: IIe Enhanced New PSU, RAMworks IIII, uthernet II, Mouse card, 5.25 controller, MicroDrive Turbo, Super Serial, SAM IIe Platinum New PSU, Super Serial, MIDI, CP/M card, MicroDrive Turbo, RAMworks IIII...

    Good first Apple II?

So to play devils advocate, the IIc has no expansion slots. This greatly limits your abilities. Honestly I'd recommend an IIe [platinum if you can find it, quite common in the grand scheme of things] as a good first apple II to anyone, however, if you want to bridge the gap to Mac, an IIgs is...

    Performa 6360 and BlueSCSI

Solid point, IDE to CF is a great way to go if you can, especially for classic OS.

    Performa 6360 and BlueSCSI

Are you sure the machine doesn't have an internal drive with a conflicting scsi ID?

Pics/Vids of CRTs - refresh rate

These are my rules of thumb: For photos of CRTs, turning down the brightness and taking the shot at a side angle can help bring out the detail. Video wise, make sure your camera won't keep refocusing when the brightness of the screen changes during use.

    Bother with recapping floppy drives?

I don't know much about calibrating newer drives. In the absence of an oscilloscope, ye Olde 5.25 drives could sometimes be calibrated with a strobe, kind of like how a vinyl turntable strobe shows a steady pattern on the dots of a spinning platter at proper speed. I got an oscilloscope...

Introducing (and interest check) AirTalk: Wireless plug-and-play LocalTalk dongles

I have straight thru ones but I have them clearly labelled as such. I use the same cable for an imagewriter II, airtalk, and MIDI module; a crossover.

Introducing (and interest check) AirTalk: Wireless plug-and-play LocalTalk dongles

    I have a Saleae logic pro 8, but no 6100 :(

    Apple iigs setup

Definitely my go to VGA upscaler still, shame they are still so expensive

    Apple iigs setup

I concur, when I don't want my desk crushing PVM out, or original IIgs monitor, I use a SCART cable and retrotink hdmi converter with scanline emulation enabled. It looks really nice display wise though aesthetics are another matter.

Can any one identify what this might be?

    That's my guess as well

    Check out my Mac plus

If you need one assembled I would probably be willing to solder one up. I get the frustration if you're not used to it.

Plus with weird port on the back

I can't rule it out, since we had tons of these in our educational system, but I haven't seen UofM (Michigan) stylized that way in all my years of growing up/living in Michigan. My SE which came from a U of M prof wasn't engraved, but of course I'm sure professor machines versus computer center...

    Cap explosion on SE/30–help!

I've considered getting the symbol for electrical ground/earth on my leg. When I had lung surgery (many years ago) I woke up after the procedure to find a patch of my leg shaved above my ankle. I curiously asked about it and apparently that's where I was grounded for the electrocautery. Sadly, I...

    Cap explosion on SE/30–help!

I agree it's pretty tough as a standard that they're reversed. I like that Console5s business cards literally have this warning on them though. I love component testers, even a cheap one to rule out clearly faulty or out of spec caps before installing them pays dividends.

    Check out my Mac plus

Very nice! I have tons of extra / leftover parts for the original ROMINATOR, enough to build several of them I'm sure. If you want a fresh PCB, perhaps with the SMD chip already done, or whatever else you might need to get that back on track, I'm happy to send you one to help you along.

    Soldering iron recommendations

I have the same Hakko, my only complaint being occasionally it isn't able to keep the tip at temperate on joints with larger thermal mass. I may find one with a bigger wattage heater at some point. Temperature controlled aside I used a 20 or 25 watt Weller with changeable tips for ages. I still...
