You mean convergence rings, or the actual magnets for corner convergence?
I loathe touching the rings, but I don't mind sticking a permalloy strip or two around the yoke to fix corners.
The official recommendation is the 4x 4m simms in one bank and 4x 1m in the other. I did this config recently, pictured below in the correct placement. Ignore the system reporting so much ram usage, I had to enable 32 bit addressing still.
Whoa, I hadn't even thought about that. I use a lot of Extron and Key Digital stuff, and a lot of it does support 240p even if undocumented. I don't know if I have the cable chain on hand to try my IIgs with the RGB-HDMI 300 I have, but this is awesome info.
Same honestly, but mine takes ages to warm up even after I recapped and worked on it. Eventually I'll find a new tube but for now this works. The retrotink is also nice for the Amiga 600 I have, since a PVM would fold that desk in half 😆
I like the Retrotink 2x SCART, it works well enough for the IIgs for me and I like the scanline option.
Works well with 240P input, I also use it with an Amiga 600.

I always use a rubiks cube puzzle lube on plastic parts I'm concerned with (having also seen other products destroy plastics). I'll have to look and see if I can find what it actually is.
For BBS, a WiModem232 or similar works just fine. But it's a modem emulator for terminal software, not ethernet, so beyond BBS / telnet you may find it limited in use. Overall a great device though.
I had a faulty AC unit, and a faulty dehumidifier, both bad enough to cause noticeable disruption to lights in the whole house until we hunted them down.
I'll be honest (and probably of little help), I place them on an HTTP server and burn them using Toast on any older Mac I have access to with internet and a CDR drive.
It's all perspective I suppose, there isn't a complete lack of 16 bit software but compared with the rest of the II library it's pretty small.
This website is a good way to see what's available though, by category (productivity software for example)...
Unfortunately more that people caught on in recent years IMHO. I can't speak for numbers, but they sold very well given they had more features and less cost than a IIc. People in computer sales at the time tell me that they essentially sold themselves.
I could also completely speculate that...
I feel the same, and unless one falls into my lap, I'm more than happy with a Laser 128. There were some funny vTech adverts for the Laser 128 series in magazines back in the day, I'll have to dig one out for laughs; I'll post it if I find it. With the bus extender I basically have a IIc with...
Seeing as the IIgs and IIc both fetch premiums, leaning toward the IIgs isn't a bad idea at all, as long as you know there wasn't a ton of stuff made that really leveraged the 16 bit architecture in the grand scheme of things and are ok with this. Having ADB, Mac like serial ports, etc., and...
The only racked Apple/Mac I've seen in person was at the Data center I used to work at, but it was colocated equipment so I never got to actually lay hands on the thing.
A floppyEMU is amazing for an Apple II. I use them far more on those than I do on my Macs.
there is actually an Apple II 8 bit desktop, and a mouse paint app. Also proterm has a cursor for the menus if a mouse is present, and proterm is my preferred BBS terminal software.
If you end up with an...
