    MacGUI Downloads gone

I have never felt worse for someone who gave away code than the kid who wrote timthumb.php

Reviving Mike Willegal's 'Brain Board' For Apple II computers

One update today, as I uploaded a new ROM which takes advantage of the extra space differently. The original stacked ROM had Wozaniam in both low banks. I rearranged it so that one low bank contains integer basic and the other contains wozaniam. The normal mode of the brain board omits the top...

MIDI Software List for Compact Macs?

I can only hope so, I imagine it would be cute!

    MacGUI Downloads gone

This is why I physically print the manuals for a lot of things. I would hate for a site or docs for an expansion card or something similar to disappear, and not have the documentation that goes with the device.

    MacGUI Downloads gone

Yeah, this. Even the Apple II book I bought by him (which is a good book...) has the MacGUI logo on the spine. And it says "the vault" on the logo, which made me think preservation was important to him. I guess not.

MIDI Software List for Compact Macs?

You may find this book useful, it's strongly designed to help someone build a MIDI rig around a Mac at the time. https://archive.org/details/a-guide-to-computer-music-apple-2-gs-130p

Nobody is dead here, and no, I don't think anyone would hold you or anyone to keeping a server up when you're not alive. It's his server, sure, but removing it this way is undoubtedly going to cause some conversation. I can't call everyone who cares or voices an opinion about that entitled...

SCSI for Dummies Thread - How to properly use SCSI

IMO this is some of the most important advice here from a stability and power supply standpoint. Some people assume power draw is always less with these disk replacements and to some extent that's true, however, drive motors sometimes operated on 12v or something not driving the logic ICs. You...

    ROM Replacement for Apple II+

On my II+ I changed from the MSFT language card which has the supplementary ribbon cable that plugs into a RAM socket to the 'Saturn RAM expansion.' Much less power consumption and more reliable I find. Worst case you need to find a single RAM DIP to replace the one pulled from the motherboard...

    ROM Replacement for Apple II+

Good stuff! For custom boot roms (somewhat self plug) I use the Brain Board by Mike Willegal, which I revised to have space for both applesoft and integer basic. It also has an Apple 1 mode with working cassette input on the Apple II. In theory you can run a board romless with one but I haven't...

    Apple IIGS start up failure

Good eye! Definitely there could be a few traces suspect there. At least they all look fixable on first glance [if they are broken].

    Apple IIGS start up failure

Complete lack of a battery shouldn't cause that as far as I know. You can try reseating the ROM at UI10 next to the CPU just in case, as well as any other socketed chips if you're comfortable with it. Bonus points if you clean the IC legs carefully. It could also be a RAM issue but your RAM is...

Cheap and simple ADB to USB converter

@ronan I see the PCB files on your github but didn't notice a license i.e. CC-BY-SA or GPL. I have easily a dozen kits (sans pro micro) available. Because several people have asked for these, and because I am -definitely- getting 1099'd by eBay/PayPal this year, I moved my remaining PCBs and...

A thread for Apple II clones

Neat. People had put all sorts of 5 character combinations there just to displace "APPLE" (You probably already knew that).

A thread for Apple II clones

Mine isn't an illegal clone, since vTech licensed BASIC from Microsoft, but I am quite fond of my Laser 128.

If I can find where I put them ... Edit: found them, I have 10-15 left, shoot me a PM if you need one (or more).

JLCPCB seems too good to be true

Yeah it's an interesting conundrum. I end up doing one of two things: Ordering 10 boards repeatedly, because 20-50 is more per piece on the site. Ordering 100-200 boards to get close to the same price/pc as the prototype 10 piece special. At a certain point increasing quantity does start bulk...

So much Apple II software and nothing to use it on

Perhaps stating the obvious but the exchange rate is around 300USD to 479AUD. However I would rather have a IIe or IIe platinum. If I could only own one apple II, a IIc would be the bottom of the list. There's just way too much fun to be had with the expansion slots.

    Good first Apple II?

I have plenty of 25C256/512 chips, I can burn the chip(s) for ROM4X or ROM5X for you for $10 each plus US postage (usually about $4). A little more expensive if you want a non-windowed SST SF EEPROM that can be rewritten without a UV eraser. If you don't plan on reprogramming it, a normal EPROM...

Reassembled Mac SE case doesn't *quite* fit...

One issue I had was a slightly warped back casing which was due to a previous owner leaving a screw loose (insert obvious joke here). I had to flex opposing corners of it to get it to pop into place in the front piece. Likely not what you're dealing with but I had to mention it.
