@Rajel Oh I wonder if it is just due to the CF brand whether it boots or not. I've just got hold of some WD Silicondrive CF cards so I'll test them out. I'm too afraid to replace the CPU to be honest, probably not worth it as I doubt many apps use the FPU anyway. Sorry I've already lost my list...

I bet it is a depleted PROM battery. Unplug the battery and it will power on as soon as you plug the power in.

FYI another reason you can get lines on the screen is a faulty/worn display cable, these things seem to rot away over the years.

Hi all, As you might know I recently refurbished my PB 190, but unfortunately the battery was too far gone to save any of the internals, they were simple too far gone. I have saved the case, as to not have a gaping hole in the side. I am just wondering if anyone in the community re-builds...

I just had 2x VL2330 batteries arrive in the post. Soldered them together the same as the originals and plugged it in. I've set the system time and I guess I'll let them charge for a bit before testing if the date and time are kept when power is lost.

Just with the original HDD. I've ordered a CF to IDE adaptor for it. Will transfer the original HDD to CF via a PCMCIA card, and then put in the adapter. You mentioned mixed results, could you elaborate? Thx

Yeah cheers for coming back to life to follow up this post! I was thinking about trying this in my 190 but now I know not to waste the money, so thanks lol :)  I am going to use an IDE > CF instead, I'm sure this will perform ideally.

Yeah these cables are so delicate! Perhaps I should massage it in olive oil before sealing it back away lol :)

Ohhh yeah, with the proper display cable it has come to life.

I bought it from a really old apple parts supplier in the UK, they weren't even sure if they still had it when I called but it was still listed on their inventory. Luckily they did. Got the new cable arriving tomorrow, I'll let you know the results. I think it should be ok as the display wakes...

No it was definitely brand new, even had all the nice plastic peel all over. What I've found is that the display ribbon connector is slightly different for each type of LCD they used, so I've ordered a spare part for exactly this 5300c display. We will see.
