Mac SE - Single Pixel Thick Verticle Jail-lines

So I've got a Mac SE which until recently was working perfectly. However, I have installed a set of SIMMs totaling 4MB, having increased this from the 1MB SIMMs. After installing the new SIMMs, the machine started getting these one-pixel thick vertical jail-lines. Outside of the annoying visual...

400k Drive Repair Guide - A Call to Arms!!!!!!

Thank you everyone for the info in this thread, it's been very helpful in helping me troubleshoot my 400k drives. Currently, I've got two 400K drives of the exact same model, that being the Sony OA-D34V-02. I've got one of these internally installed in my Mac 512k and one in an external closure...

PowerBook 165 Grid Effect on LCD

Been working on this for about 3 hours and I haven't been able to track down what is causing the problem. I'll attach some pictures to see if any of you can spot what's wrong. I know the caps I'm using aren't surface mount, but sadly it's all I was able to get on short notice. I'll swap em to...

PowerBook 165 Grid Effect on LCD

Looks like this issue occurred in this thread: https://68kmla.org/forums/index.php?/topic/56389-powerbook-140-lines-on-bottom-half-of-screen-and-clicking-sounds/ I'm going to double check to see if there isn't any solder shorting one of the traces near the LCD capacitors. Will report back if...

    CURRENT most reliable Powerbook?

Agreed with you there. Although I've found the plastics to be decaying very quickly on the PB 1xx series, things like screw holders splitting/detaching is very common. In comparison my 540c hasn't had any issues in that area yet, but I don't take that one apart as it just works! Yeeeah, when...

    CURRENT most reliable Powerbook?

I’d say that the PowerBook 5xx are the best to go with in terms of 68k reliability. Plus with them having 680LC040 chips in them they can easily run Mac OS 8.1 if that’s your jam. I’ve got a PowerBook 540c which I love. Although it’s got an internal SCSI drive, so drive replacements are awkward...

PowerBook 165 Grid Effect on LCD

Hello! First time poster here, but long time watcher. I've recently been restoring this PowerBook 165 that was sold as parts. I've re-capped the LCD and fixed the Connor Hard Disk using the epoxy resin trick. However, upon putting it back together after repairing the HDD I've been getting this...
