Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
They're not gone yet... service ends in September.
I did think it was awesome that after all these years, you could still stick an original AOL floppy in a Mac Plus connected with a landline modem, and with a simple phone number change, it'd go online. After September, that will no longer be...
@RepairManiac, I'll add my thanks here as well. Thanks for not only preserving them yourself, including the included documentation, but also following best archiving practices when getting them online! This means we'll have a very interesting piece of history preserved for the future!
Am I the first person who thought of Mork from Ork? A great Robin Williams performance of its time. And the TV show ended right before the Lisa was released!
That's an excellent write-up! And it even includes a few things I didn't know before! Still a mystery to me: why some of the original patterns were dropped in favour of the ones that were released with MacPaint 1.0 and became an integral part of the System (default desktop patterns).
If you've got VGA out... you could add an inline module to do AirPlay as well -- to cast the output to other Mac devices in the vehicle, or even to a HUD ;)
Hooray!
At some point, someone was building a universal database of Apple part numbers. The copy I have though really only covers up until around 1988, and then is VERY spotty until around 2003.
Anyone know of a more up-to-date list these could be added to?
Currently, I compile the ndrv for QEMU in QEMU (used to do it in SheepShaver). Being able to compile on the host system would be nice, but I'm using the same CodeWarrior setup I've used for over 20 years, so I've got rather comfortable with it. Beats having to struggle with multiple layers of...
Not sure if you're aware of my project to run all Mac OS versions ever created on my *Mac (I started this project on a G3, and am currently doing it on an M1). Started with "all commercial US releases" then added public betas, then a few notable developer releases, then notable other-language...
It'd be interesting to be able to check the date value on boot, and if it's within a certain distance of 1904, automatically load the values. Then you could add the byte as well to manually trigger it when the time isn't indicating the values have been wiped, and could set that byte via INIT at...
I think I used one of the Accel SC scanners back in 1990 or so; however, the one I used had a SCSI interface and was plugged directly into a Mac Plus, without the Abaton box. It had custom Accel scanner software and a driver that needed to be installed before it would work. The Abaton box...
The easiest solution is the Farallon-style PhoneNet connectors (like your Dad used); serial on one side, and two RJ11 on the other; chain all the devices together via phone cabling. Those games should "just work" if it's all connected up and LocalTalk is enabled. Unlike Token Ring etc...
Yeah; that used to be one of my test MODs back in the day :) And I was always annoyed that ProTracker just up and changed the definitions of things, even if the changes were generally for the better. Most of my collection was pre-ProTracker and the lack of backwards-compatibility was rather...
For those of you not wanting to actually test and validate a chatbot to see the results, I've done it for you with @jmacz's example using Copilot so you can come to your own conclusions:
Me: compliant with "Inside Macintosh", how would you add custom vars to a parameter block during...
Heh; that brings back memories; Axel-F was one of my test MODs back in the mid-to-late-90s, precisely because of how it used the voices. I had a reference output waveform and compared what the various trackers did to add "depth" and "space" -- tested the same set of MODs, ITs, S3Ms, FMs, etc...
Compare them to mods that don't play properly on Sound Trekker; there's a lot of "MOD" files that aren't actually 4-channel or have sounds sampled at the wrong frequency or are too big to load.
What exactly are you looking for? If it's still about DeskTape Pro 5.7, I recommend asking Siddhartha over on MG. He's moved to using publicly accessible tools and writing up the process when he's done, so others can learn how to replicate his work for themselves. Although what he does is not...
That's true; I started using ZTerm on a Plus in 1992 (used Mac Kermit before that) and by 1995, ZTerm supported everything I wanted (and still worked on the Plus). I did have drop-outs on Plus-to-Plus transfers via ZTerm on the original version, and also had phone interruptions sometimes when...
