    Macintosh 68060 Redux

Thank you for putting in this work. There's a bunch of us that have been speculating on this topic since the 040 was announced to be EOL, and then even more after the Amiga successfully ran Mac OS on an 060. Having hard data to put behind all the "what if"s is extremely gratifying. And thanks...

    Gray NDRV solution!

Minor update; added some missing samples, moved 4 that ended up in the wrong location.

Aquafox - new web browser for G4 running OS X Tiger

Panther to Tiger involved a major GCC bump as well as some significant Core API changes. This all resulted in massive speed improvements, partly by taking advantage of hardware acceleration in ways that Panther wasn't designed to do. The result? Compile for Panther and have to reimplement a...

    G4 MDD (3,6) Power Cable

"Z" refers to "International" -- it's the "Zed" release -- usually localized to international spellings and keyboard layouts. However, there's a number of variations, so you end up with 1Z, 2Z etc. if there are different international configurations for the same product.

    Gray NDRV solution!

My repo's updated now, and a PR is in to sentient06/MacROMan/ -- I'm still missing a few, but found a few new ones while looking for them :)

I've been using Hotstuff myself for years already, assuming it's the same one :)

    Gray NDRV solution!

IDAPro does decent PPC disassembly. If you want something that runs ON OS 9, you're looking for Resourcerer or Jasik's debugger, neither of which does a great job, or the CodeWarrior debugger with the IDE, if you've got symbols.

    Gray NDRV solution!

Yeah; I need to commit to my fork first; I've gathered a few now, but have a bunch to go. So far: New World 1.1, 1.1.2, 1.4, 1.6, 3.0, 3.5, 3.6, (new one: 3.9), 5.2.1, 6.1, 7.5.1, 8.3.1, 8.4, 10.2.1. This time, they're all OSXZipped with the resource forks attached. It'll take me a while to...

Can a Macintosh use non-contiguous RAM?

That would be very interesting to find out.

1GHz TiBook has two very annoying problems

Worth driving some audio and testing voltage on those lines to see if the signal is getting to the speaker....

Can a Macintosh use non-contiguous RAM?

Didn't Connectix RAM Doubler completely rewrite those routines for handling non-contiguous memory? I seem to recall the developers at the time discussing how Apple made all sorts of assumptions in the original code about contiguous memory in how they handled the addressing routines, and...

Changing the default window size in SimpleText

I thought that spacing had been an intentional thing under OS 8/9? I seem to recall reading a tech note on it at the time -- it covers Letter and 24 character layout, and leaves a column down the right for easy access to desktop icons in their default locations?

    Gray NDRV solution!

So... what's causing the Monitors CP to go to the gray screen for the Thousands option? Is it attempting to use the wrong ndrv at first?

    Quadra 605 build log

Hah; that CD! I did a sanity check on the flyleaf for Freaky on that one; still have the CD from the test run around somewhere. I seem to recall using that tool later in OS 9; not sure if it works with 68k Macs or not, or if it's for OT 1.2 and up.

Warning - floppy drive head mechanism glue is deteriorating

We've still got pennies! I have them stored on read/write heads and wedged in various other interesting locations. Just because the Canadian Mint no longer honours them doesn't mean they vanished ;)

I think that's probably the tool I was thinking of; the config interface looks the same as what I remember. Took a few tries for me to get everything stable, but the performance boost was very noticeable once complete.

    My Mad B&W G3 Setup!

Ooh! I used to have one of those hooked up to my DV SE! And I had a HiFi VCR hooked up to the video out, which means I had an entire composite video pipeline. I found that the Dazzle* tended to blur the 320p signal a bit though; eventually, I replaced it with a Sony Digital8 handycam, which...

    Restoration CD for market software

Thanks for this; I'll compare the two and see if there are any differences. That distortion in the graphic is interesting; that usually indicates that the appropriate font size wasn't available or someone did a really bad job resizing the screenshot.

    Quadra 605 build log

I remember using jumbo frames in 7.6.1 with OT 1.1.2. I also remember that it was a real headache setting it up, and I may have had to use a third party tool (OTConfig or something?) to adjust window and frame management to get it to work. OT is awesome in that it has APIs for everything for...
