Giant box of BMUG (and a few Educomp) floppies!

Anyone doing classic Mac on a modern Mac also needs this: https://diskjockey.onegeekarmy.eu/ -- it can read/write/list/convert all the old image formats :) But I don't think it can convert between flux and MooF. In fact, I'm drawing a complete blank how I generated my MooF set in the first...

Giant box of BMUG (and a few Educomp) floppies!

    1. Are any of these disks still uncatalogued / desired by the community? - I believe a number of them are! 2. Does Internet Archive or Macintosh Garden care about the full information in the .flux format for archival purposes, or would it be preferable just to convert them to a DC42 image or...

Mac OS on ANS - Modding a ROM DIMM

I wonder if booting into single user mode would work without a proper video card?

updated firmware for new world ppc32 macs that allows booting from usb from the boot picker

My own 1.5GHz G4 Mini experience has been different from yours, but I think I've figured out why: it's to do with the drive partitioning. For the USB boot, the boot manager only ever picks up the first partition on the USB device for me. So if that's not the one you're trying to select, that...

Ideal upgrade path for a dual 867MHz MDD?

Supposedly the Finder from 7.1 works, as does the Finder from 7.5. Just something wonky with the 7.1.2 Finder.

Ideal upgrade path for a dual 867MHz MDD?

Have you tried installing System 7.1 on it yet? You'll lose networking, graphics acceleration and sound, but be able to say you've done it :)

MacFlim - how can I prepare a video file for it?

For those unfamiliar with MacFlim: https://www.macflim.com/ What do you mean by "Do not play"? Does it show an initial image? Fail to load in MacFlim at all? Something else? If it's a "fails to load" issue, see the instructions at the bottom of the MacFlim webpage about files that have lost...

    iMac "Core 2 Duo" 2.66 20" - ideal version of OS X?

Most of it, anyway. Some things don't work, like downloading releases from Github.

Backporting HFS+ to Mac OS 8.0 and earlier

I bet they didn't imagine booting System 7.1 on a computer produced in 2005 when they wrote that. [edit] Wow... the gbly application wasn't submitted until 1995... and wasn't granted until 2002! It's expired now though.

updated firmware for new world ppc32 macs that allows booting from usb from the boot picker

Definitely. I'm watching the thread(s) on that one, as building up your own firmware definitely provides lots of options... way beyond what I've got time to work on myself though, and I might be able to make time to do something with the TBXI -- didn't want to start on it if others already knew...

Backporting HFS+ to Mac OS 8.0 and earlier

I did some digging, and the only thing I was able to find was an unsubstantiated assertion that "gbly" stood for "globally" and that resources AND file types with this string were loaded for global access (ie: any process can use them / be affected by them). Sounds reasonable, but I suspect...

System 7 (and OS 8) natively boots on the Mac mini G4!

Yeah; I think I figured it out; two system folders on the same partition, and it went and "re-blessed" the other one somehow. With a single 8.1 system folder named "System Folder" on the HFS+ partition, it works.

updated firmware for new world ppc32 macs that allows booting from usb from the boot picker

Would it be persistent if the patched TBXI set up nvramrc and then the system rebooted?

updated firmware for new world ppc32 macs that allows booting from usb from the boot picker

I wasn't thinking boot roms, just in the TBXI. After all, that loads into OF and can load objects, so seems like the logical place to insert structures like this, since it'll be self-contained in a file people can put in their System Folder. https://github.com/elliotnunn/tbxi to explode the...

updated firmware for new world ppc32 macs that allows booting from usb from the boot picker

Hmm; could this be rolled into a ROM using ELN's patcher? It's easy enough to use as-is if you're already booted into OS X, but that would make things a bit simpler for those already living in OS 9 or earlier.

updated firmware for new world ppc32 macs that allows booting from usb from the boot picker

Wow... this is just what I've been looking for! This'll let me switch into System 7.5 on my G4 Mini without the huge delay... AND let me boot it from a USB stick!

System 7 (and OS 8) natively boots on the Mac mini G4!

Backporting HFS+ to Mac OS 8.0 and earlier

Funny thing is, before I learned about gbly, back when 7.1 was first released, I realized that anything put in the Fonts folder would get loaded by the OS. So I created suitcases containing all sorts of resources that I could just add/remove from the Fonts folder to load/unload. I was using...

Tips for Upgrading a Mac mini G4 for Mac OS 9 Use

All up and running on internal drive partitions, no sound, sleep, networking, gfx accel. Running in Millions of Colors at 1920x1080. I didn't realize older OS versions could even do that! Not sure when the next time is I'll get to hack around, but if I get some spare time between now and the...
