Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
You can probably do this with either flattenMooV, as Daxeria mentioned, or MoviePlayer 1.0 or 2.0 on a machine that has QuickTime 1.x-2.x installed. Here is QuickTime 2.1 under System 7.1; you want to do a Save As... and hit "Playable on non-Apple computers":
However don't expect modern...
It's interesting -- System 7.1 was the first version that was "World Ready" with WorldScript, right? I wonder if there was any circa-1992 update to AppleTalk docs, or recommendations to not try anything crazy, at that time...
I think "someone’s getting mojibake" is simultaneously a rallying...
Just a note that my freshly-recapped TDK 699-0153 was almost exactly on point (+5, +12, -12) even with no load present. Hardest part was getting the probes to touch the pins through the narrow openings in the plastic cable shroud.
Curious if this card works under System 6, as that’s what the LC originally shipped with? I’m guessing the answer is yes, since the Pivot as a whole predates System 7 and since it doesn’t seem to require any exotic drivers…
I've worked with another Lisa owner to narrow the problem down to... the bare metal chassis itself! More specifically, there must be a bad connection somewhere around the female port connectors that receive the motherboard assembly, and/or the power switch, as all of my components (motherboard...
It does indeed -- it seems to lack the convenient SCSI Driver and Apple Partition headers that the Mac version of the SuperFloppy supplies, but as long as you're willing to format with a 3rd party utility...
...probably some work to be done with custom formatting parameters to optimize the...
Checking back in on this thread in 2024 -- it's interesting that whatever ffmpeg is trying to do with cinepak runs about 10x slower on a M1 Max than a 2013 iMac Pro (12-core Xeon, which has pretty impressively crummy single-core performance.)
Appreciate the details folks have discovered and...
This is quite an extensive (42 min) piece from This Does Not Compute about the cancelled touchscreen Duo:
He has interviews with several key engineers, and access to what seem to be working units...
Not an expert on Netatalk, but I think there are situations where System 6-7 can’t handle extremely large volume sizes on remote servers. IIRC there was a flag in Netatalk to mask or otherwise hide the actual size of the volume to avoid situations like this…
Realized the I/O board is facing the right way to do easy testing with the back cover removed and interlock defeated :)
I've tested each of the I/O boards I have, and both seems to be showing the correct voltages on the COP chip:
Pin 1: Ground
Pin 9: 4.86 volts
Pin 14: 4.86 volts
I think...
An update -- fully recapped the 1.8A PSU, mostly to get rid of the risk from the RIFA's. I've measured voltages on the Widget power connector and can see a nearly-perfect 12 and 5 volts. (Except for pin 3, but 5v doesn't seem to be necessary there).
I've created a page on TechTangents caps.wiki...
Funny, I was thinking the thing given the crazy eBay prices! :)
Before Farallon was a commercial company, some of its products (PhoneNET and MacRecorder) came from the community in BMUG, the Berkeley Macintosh User Group. Michael P. Lamoureux was a math grad student at UCB and, I believe, a...
I came across this table in a 1990 service guide -- at least for me, it helped clarify things.
Having said that, I think there is a contraction between the un-enhanced 512K only working with a 400K drive (in the chart) and footnote 2, which states that a yellow cable will make an 800K drive...
I have a Lisa 2 that worked for many years, but has recently started giving an Error 52 -- and also immediately starting up when powered, instead of waiting for the power button. (Interestingly that light remains unlit despite the machine turning on.)
Here's what I've tried so far:
1) Replace...
Before ResEdit shipped as a unified application, Apple had smaller programs that could perform some of the same tasks:
Alert/Dialog Editor
Font Editor
Icon Editor
These were part of a "Software Supplement" that seems to have shipped in the summer of 1984 - for the price of $100.
Below, a July...
Since some of these links and images have since disappeared, I scanned in the MacClip/PowerClip Jr manual and imaged the June 1995 benchmarking disk:
