I had both a 9700 and a 9800, back when I had my second G4 DA (the one that got the OWC 1.2GHz upgrade). Both worked fine. The 9700 was a flashed card. The 9800, I think, was one from a G5...
That is an oddball. I do remember seeing a ][ Plus in an ad (I think for Kensington and their System Saver) that had the membrane buttons at the bottom edge of the lid, but it still had the stock badge and no other buttons & switches. Nor did it have the additional vents and lid-mounted...
Ah, the 1998-2000 Presario minitower. Father had a 7478. Not that great of a machine. The 5630 at least looks like it has a PIII, instead of an AMD K6-2, like the 7478.
Mac OS 8.1 CD to replace the one that's MIA. Also have a Quadra 650 logic board coming from Canada that has internal SCSI issues. Between that board and the one currently in my 650, should be able to have one good working board for said Mac.
*slight correction* The fan is mounted differently inside the later power supply, so it doesn't use the bracket that slides down into place. Instead, the top case panel covers the fan.
Looks cool. That said, unless you want the machine to be 100% original, the IIvx, Centris/Quadra 650, and 7100 power supply works perfectly in a IIcx, IIci, or Quadra 700. Does away with the fan support bracket, since the fan is mounted inside the PSU enclosure.
Under System 7.5.1 and newer, you can hit the power key once it boots up. That brings up the shut down/restart dialog box with a beep. Hit return after the beep, and it should shut down.
The IIcx I had in 2013 acted the same way when it was booted on the internal ROM. Had a IIfx module and tried that. It booted without issues. Might be worth trying a IIfx ROM SIMM or a ROMinator II in there.
The SE that I had in the spring and summer of 2023 was running a Miniscribe that worked fine. I still decided to swap it out with something more useful, size-wise. Dropped in a good working 230MB Quantum. Sold it as a 4/230 config, running 6.0.8. Got it as a 2.5/20, running System 7.1, which...
A Personal LaserWriter NT is essentially a LaserJet IIP with the PostScript and JetDirect AppleTalk module installed. Decent printer, albeit slow, compared to modern printers. Basically a page every 15 seconds. A LaserWriter IINTX or IIf/IIg model would also be good, but will definitely need...
And, the Apple LaserWriter printers are based on the same Canon guts that HP used on their LaserJet printers, so the same availability for toner and refurbishment kits applies to the equivalent LaserWriter.
Probably would be worth sticking with 3.2 and older on those early games. More likely to function correctly. Suspect the game is expecting to have its code loaded into a certain memory address and gets confused with System 4.1 and higher.
