PS: after more inspection, I think the battery on the IIcx logic board I am repairing did rupture at some time in the past. Whoever cleaned the board did a fine job, but I noticed.. all the electrolytic capacitors' markings are washed off. Somebody used a ton of cleaner if they got it on top of...
I am reworking a IIcx right now that has green corrosion (zombie dust..) on the solder pads of all eight 74F258, U[KLM]2, C8 - C11, C15 - C16, and on my board those diodes look suspect, too.
The symptom is the same, the PSU won't remain on after I press the button. It doesn't stay 'on' long...
Excellent to have some replies, thanks all for reading.
I was testing these in rapid-fire, and as such had the lids (chassis covers) off. And also as a result, I didn't take written notes. I'll repeat this matrix again sometime, possibly within the week, and take better notes. But I can say for...
Hello all. I have an inventory mismatch going on here. I've accumulated a few working manual inject SuperDrive floppy drives, Sony and Mitsu. I also have a few LC-type systems that would complete their restorations if they finally had floppies. Trial and error tells me that the LC I and LC II...
I found an LC (LC I) that was a bad case of battery leakage and beyond repair. The leakage was confined to one half of the logic board, however. I did my best to remove some of the healthy-looking chips.
Is anyone here is interested in them? Given their dubious history plus the thermal stress...
All true. These are fairly standard, but I expected some variation in the placement of the standoffs, and possibly the offset from the connector edge to the pins, etc.
Good work on replacing those DBs! That's what I was hoping to see after my own repair. But once the LC I arrived, I found the...
Hi all - I'm about to start a refurb on an LC (LC I). It's not here yet, but already I can see from the advance photos that the external SCSI DB25 and the video DB15 are rusted up. (The insides may be unsalvageable.. don't know yet...)
Has anyone already found replacement parts from Digikey or...
Both drives power up, spin up and level off, and almost immediately spin down if connected solely to power. I hear no seek activity at all.
ProDrive ELS, 80M and 160M capacities.
I opened the smaller one (following your eBay link's instructions: masked, windows shut, no fans etc.) and it did...
Well, I'm stumped.
I recapped a Q605 and got it to boot, got the sound back, etc. It wasn't a trouble-free recap, though, and there are multiple bodge wires now.
What I see now is that the external SCSI seems fine. I can boot from a Zip that has the termination switch 'on'. I have no other...
Looks to be ~9.1mm fully compressed. I count 47-48 windings, so rough estimate of the wire diameter would be ~0.1875mm . End-to-end length (including loops) ~15.3mm . Coil diameter ~3.2mm . I have no credible means to measure the tension it creates.
I don't see anything that small on the link I...
I am waiting for replacement ejection gears to arrive (from Italy) before I overhaul the SuperDrives in my SE. They were due two days ago, so, could be any moment now. If I get time, I'll get a head-start - take a SuperDrive out of the SE today, compare with your photos, and see if I can size...
I'd start at https://www.mcmaster.com/springs/corrosion-resistant-extension-springs-with-loop-ends/
Use a micrometer/caliper - or just a good ruler - to measure the spring length/diameter/wire gauge and start searching for a match. I'm not sure how to get the right force.. memories of high...
I was about to ask about SCSI termination power. Cool that a topic opened up about this.
Short form:
Any good references out there on the web about SCSI termination? Any ideas how a logic board can permanently damage a SCSI HDD?
Long form:
I have a logic board that seems to fry SCSI HDDs. I...
IIRC, I got the UCSD Pascal system up and running on it in my senior year of college then donated it to a high school. Probably with a (non-Super-)Serial Card and a Disk ][.
Later, I owned a //e for a while, as well as couple of IIgs systems. I had a KIM-1 for a while. There used to be "junk"...
I think Apple never meant 'normal' to include 'can be heard by everyday casual users'. I don't know dBA, really, but I'd estimate that the background noise is in the 25-30 dB range. About as loud as a whisper - and constant.
This brings me back to the topic's theme. I'd love to see some...
Just a 1+ on this locking up on a Quadra 605/System 7.5 with 36MB physical memory.
As a retired software engineer, I'd be willing to fix this. I have the sources.. but.. how do I build a new cdev/app which is compatible with the Macintosh Systems of the 1990s? I vaguely recall CodeWarrior...
And lo, there was audio.
Before I recapped the Quadra logic board, I could hear faint system noises -- continuous white noise (faint), added chatter during SCSI activity (less faint), and a number of whirrs and buzzes depending on video and ADB activity. But nothing else. No beeps, no music.
I...
So true! I checked all my new caps for shorts, in case I'd bridged their leads underneath; all good. Reseated the VRAM. No boot.
Then the battery holder arrived; I installed it and a fresh battery and the Q605 booted right up. No sound, but that was the problem that the recap was originally...
