setting up a G4 Tower Quicksilver 933 MHz

Yes, but I think it needs flashing for both. The reason they don't advertise compatibility I think is because the required firmware is not freely licensed. And yes you can use any standard PATA drive with the G4s onboard IDE.

Warning about Iomega Zip Drives on eBay being advertised as SCSI (Z100S) but actually being Parallel port (Z100P) versions

what does the back of that one look like? edit : theres one listed on eBay as a Zip Plus, and it appears to have the SCSI-ID select switch, but not the termination switch. And the bottom lacks the diagram showing either a SCSI cable or Printer cable.

SillyTinySCSI - Smallest SCSI emulator! (ZuluSCSI OSHW)

This is awesome, great job, and thanks for sharing. A 50 pin variant for internal SCSI connectors might be cool. The beautiful thing about open source is it would be easy for anyone to try this based on your design files. If someone wanted a full size SD, again, easy. And thank you RHC!

setting up a G4 Tower Quicksilver 933 MHz

Oh while on the subject of games, I used to play Halo, Halo CE, StarCraft, A-10 Cuba, and Escape Velocity, just to name a few. One I wanted to play but never did was Falcon 4.0. I tried playing on a PowerMac 7300 and it just didn't work, and never got to trying it once I got newer Macs (it...

setting up a G4 Tower Quicksilver 933 MHz

If you're into overclocking, it's somewhat easy on these machine. It involves removing and/or adding resistors on the CPU module. In lieu of resistors, I have used solder bridges as well as conductive paint pens. I would bet your 933MHz would run at 1GHz no problem. If you're looking for...

Power Computing Motherboard Compatibility with PC Riser and Case

Just want to share what minimal info I've found so far. I've compared pictures of various LPX boards, and many or most do match the PowerCenter board. However, many are shorter, sort of like they are "MicroLPX". Also, want to quote wikipedia: "There was never any official LPX...

Power Computing Motherboard Compatibility with PC Riser and Case

I've been looking for a Power Computing "Catalyst Plus" system (PowerCenter Pro, PowerTower) for a while, and ended up finally finding one, but, it's just the motherboard. Here's what I'm talking about if anyone is wondering what I mean by "Catalyst Plus"...

    It's MO time ☺

if I recall correctly, the first Mission Impossible movie had a PowerBook 540c with a MO drive; did MO drives for PowerBooks actually exist? edit: google says it was a 5300; I need to rewatch the movie coulda swore there was a 540 edit again, there was a 540c in the movie, and PowerBook MO...

Silicon Image SIL3112 Flashing: Easier Way Using flashrom

Sorry if I'm missing something obvious, but I can't quite figure out the exact ROM to use. I've got the RHC SATA HardCard, so it's a SiI3112 chip-set and has a 512K flash. I want to use the card in a PowerMac 9500, but it'd be great if it could be swapped into G3s and G4s and still work. So...

The Confusing World of ATI Radeons

Has anyone tried a Sun Microsystems PCI Radeon 7000 (or similar) in a Mac? My understanding is the reason PC cards don't work in Macs ootb is because they lack Open Firmware support. Sun Microsystems used OF so maybe they'll just work? I even heard of someone flashing a Radeon Mac Edition...

PCI Card Compatibility with OS9, USB/FW Combo, Ethernet, Other

USB OverDrive got the mouse working great. Defaulted to right-click being the same as ctrl-click, and the scroll wheel scrolls. The mouse was super slow, but USB OD has settings for speed, so all in all everything is working great. I did get the feeling that I was having new higher CPU usage...

PCI Card Compatibility with OS9, USB/FW Combo, Ethernet, Other

Thanks for that bit of info. I just tried mine, and it too works straight away. Well, left, middle, and right click all register as left click, and scroll doesn't work, but I am guessing that will be fixable with the right software. Really wonder why the standalone USB card isn't working.

PCI Card Compatibility with OS9, USB/FW Combo, Ethernet, Other

It does show up in System Profiler as a USB card; does that mean I still have to look for the PCI card driver? When I plug a mouse in, it does not power up or function. A mouse is the main thing I've been wanting to use USB for. I did most of my testing on 8.6 without success, haven't tried...

PCI Card Compatibility with OS9, USB/FW Combo, Ethernet, Other

Actually I've got just a plain USB card (NEC chipset, 2 ports) in there now that I can't even get working. Currently have OS 9.1 installed. I believe I have tried pulling drivers from the 9.2.1 and 9.2.2 CDs, as well as macos-usb-and-firewire-support v1.4.6 with no luck. I was thinking next I...

Transferring Files between Linux and OS 9 via ZuluSCSI

Basically hoping one of them will be readable by OS9, which I've read should recognize FAT32, exfat, and certainly it can recognize HFS. I also have an extension which is supposed to allow it to mount ext2. If it's not obvious, on my linux machine, I do something like this (let's assume the SD...

Transferring Files between Linux and OS 9 via ZuluSCSI

Yep image files. I've so far tried HFS, HFS+, ext2, FAT32, and exfat as .img files. I haven't tried .iso or any CD formats. Cool will try that

    MacOS 8.6 vs 9.1 vs 9.2.2

Just tried that because one of my main issues was a very slow file manager. Not sure how to properly calculate this. I will say, I would like a way to load all of my file directories into RAM, or at least folders I tend to go into a lot that have a fair amount of files, like extensions...

Transferring Files between Linux and OS 9 via ZuluSCSI

Looking for an easy way to transfer files between my Linux desktop and my 7300 running OS 9.1, and was hoping to utilize my ZuluSCSI for this by transferring the SD card back and forth. However, I have not had much luck. Anyone else try to do this? What was your work flow? I have had a wide...
