Tunnel Vision On Monochrome Active Matrix Powerbooks

I am currently "baking" a Powerbook 540 screen that has bad tunnel vision syndrome (starts at about 2 minutes after the machine has been tuned on; after 10 minutes or so, only the center area of the screen is lit, the outside is completely dark). I'm trying to de-humidify the screen by treating...

Replacement CCFL bulbs for Powerbook 140/145/160

Hi, what is the voltage required for the CCFL on a Powerbook 180 - and on a Powerbook 145(B) and 160/165 (these have the same screen afaik)? I understand that the voltage is high (which is why the CCFL has rubber isolators) - but what is the actual voltage? Thanks!

Help identify a PB 1xx modem

I believe @Gunzel is right. When looking real close, the device says "Global Village Communications". I'll try installing Global Village modem software (if I find it in the Garden) and hopefully that software will tell me what this card is. Thank you very much!

Help identify a PB 1xx modem

Hello, two internal modems have come into my possession. One is a "Powerbook Fax/Data Modem 820-4048 A" and is made by Apple Computer Inc c 1991. according to what's printed on it. I have no clue who made the other one. Have a look at the attached files. Have you seen this modem? Do you know...

OK. That sounds like sage advice. Thanks!

PB 180 single stuck or dead Pixel

That's for sure. No idea why this is so. Somebody must have worked the Powerbook's insides at some point, there's a nonstandard keyboard in it (it's a German machine and should have a white keyboard, but it has a 140/170's grey keyboard). But this surely is not related to the screen. In any...

PB 180 single stuck or dead Pixel

Thanks - I read about using a soft, moist cloth and the back (round as opposed to pointed) end of a pen. And about using an area of rapidly changing colors, like a QuickTime movie in an endless loop.

PB 180 single stuck or dead Pixel

Yes, I read about that... well, I guess I'll start massaging the screen. Who would have thunk? Thanks!

PB 180 single stuck or dead Pixel

Hello, when I start a newly acquired Powerbook 180 everything is great. After about 20 minutes or so it a single Pixel in the lower third of the screen stays black. When I turn the machine off and wait for an hour or so, then start it back up, the pixel is normal. Has anyone here seen something...

    CCFL backlight in PB 145 / 160 /165 = CCFL backlight in PB 180?

Hi, a beautiful PB 180 has come into my possession. No tunneling (yet. It's been running about an hour. Fingers xed). However, the CCFL is a bit on the weak side. Would anyone here know whether the same tubes are used throughout the 1xx (140, 145, 160, 165, 180) line, or are they different? The...

    RC2023/10 IS ON!

Writing stuff in MacWrite (Pro) is good and productive. I export as RTF which modern Mac (TextEdit) and Windows programs can import (and export, even Pages does this) easily. I‘m using a FAT formatted floppy to move the files. Working with a spreadsheet, though, oh boy… I‘m using Claris...

Powerbook 160 does not fall asleep

I‘ve removed SndControl and replaced it with SoundMaster. This allows the machine to fall asleep. Strangely, After Dark interferes with Sleep as well - is there an AfterDark version wich allows 1xx Powerbooks to fall asleep?

    PB 160 sound keeps failing

I reloaded a battery with a 6V 2.4 Ah NiMH pack and it does get noticeably warm. Not really hot, but I'd say around 35-40°C. I don't feel comfortable with that and am going back to NiCd- just ordered two 1 Ah 6V packs that (hopefully) fit inside the battery case.

    Powerbook 1xx temperature

Hello, when I run the Powerbook 160 for a while - an hour or so - its bottom becomes warm in the left back area (where the daughterboard sits - only that the daughterboard doesn't touch the bottom). I guess it's around 30-35° C or so. Is this normal? I used to have a 170 waaaaaay back and I...
