New to Mac, got two SE/30s, hardware ID and some basic questions

    I'm pretty sure that's an SE/30 ROM.  IIsi ROM is P/N 820-0296B

    Ethernet on my CC

I have a Netgear Prosafe 10/100 switch I could try and see if my systems stop working...

    Ethernet on my CC

    That's a good point-- My setup uses a Farallon Ether 10T / Starlet 8 hub with 10 Base T / 10 Base 2 coax

    Ethernet on my CC

Kind of sounds like the card may have problems-- I would think OT would have worked, did you update to the latest version 1.3.1 of OT?

    Ethernet on my CC

Ethertalk is Appletalk over ethernet-- Are you having trouble with that or TCP/IP? or both? Can you ping 127.0.0.1 with MacTCP Ping? That would show that the stack is loaded.

Cap List for Mac II / IIx Sony power supply?

Has anyone recapped the Sony PSU in a Mac II /IIx?  I'm looking for a cap list. Couldn't find one anywhere. If not, I'll put a list together and post here.

    Ethernet on my CC

I don't think chooser would load TCP/IP on System 7.1 It didn't support connections with TCP /IP.    My chooser on 7.6.1 has the  button to connect with TCP/IP, but that's Open Transport and a later version of AFP and chooser.

    Ethernet on my CC

I use Mac TCP 2.1 on a IIci with 7.1.1 and an Asante MC3NB card. Also have NSI 1.5  and Appleshare WS 3.5 You probably already checked -- but make sure  Ethernet is selected for TCP/IP. Mac TCP doesn't load the TCP/IP stack until you have an app that needs TCP/IP Do you have Mac TCP Ping? Try...

I saw that AIO posting on the Boston CL.  Glad someone from here got it.

    Mac IIx

I started up the IIx board today.  Re-capped it and found a broken trace on the rear power switch, so it wouldn't power on with the switch, but did with the keyboard. I tried the ROM SIMM from my SE/30 which is really a IIsi ROM (32bit clean) and got death chimes. Swapped the RAM out, and it...

    G3 to SE/30

The only one I know of is the Netgear ReadyNAS 102, but that supports AFP version 3.3.  Older version of MacOS, System may not work with this version of AFP but OSX should. Another option with the ReadyNAS could be NFS, or even FTP, but that'll take some time to set up. I have one that I want to...

    Mac IIx

Thanks! I was happy to find one, and it was in better shape than I thought it would be.

    Mac IIx

No revision or date anywhere, just the part number and 1988. Every Mac IIx board I could find on the web had the SIMM socket. I think it was a carryover from the original Mac II, and the board was changed to allow the ROM SIMM as well.

    Mac IIx

They just dropped the socket for the ROM SIMM right in the middle of the two-- ROM 4 and ROM 6  They must have started with ROMS, and then switched to a ROM SIMM at some point.

    Mac IIx

Hmm-- I looked, but don't see any ROMs on the board. I see the silk screens for ROM 3, ROM 4, ROM 5,  ROM 6, but nothing else.

    Mac IIx

I'll have to pick one up-- that'll come in handy.

    Mac IIx

Yes, the IIx, IIcx and SE/30 all needed Mode32, but I think I can get the IIx running with the SE/30 ROM I also have a IIsi ROM in my SE/30 that's 32 bit clean.  I'll try it in the IIx.

    Mac IIx

Received the IIx today.  Case is in great shape. I though it had a video card, but there wasn't one. No ROM, No RAM, No hard drive. One floppy. Missing the slot cover for the other floppy. Leaky caps for sure-- you can see the spot around C12, next to the ROM socket. I have an extra SE/30...

Macintosh Colour Classic - no sound

I'm pretty sure that the sound out for the internal speaker goes to the internal edge connector. Check for open traces around the caps --  You'll have to follow the traces from the DFAC 2 chip to the Sound amp chip to the  connector. Check the block diagram in this developer note...
