Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
Well, schematics are pretty simple. You place abstractions of the various components on the schematic, then draw lines between the pins. To make it tidier usually you run the pins into little tags called nets. They each have a unique name and just represent that all of said pins are tied...
Howdy yall, just wondering if the A/V in/out personality card from any beige G3 will work in the Molar Mac, or do the others not have their prerequisite internal headers for the CRT? If they don’t, does anyone know if the AIO wings card actually does anything more than the internal video, or...
Yeah, that’s pretty much how I was planning to attack it. I think the most universal way to do it might even be to set it up such that the third slot can be snapped off for people who don’t want it, though I’ll have to actually lay out the board to see if that’s feasible, there might be too many...
Go ahead and email, DM, FTP, BBS, snail mail, or carrier pigeon me the files you have and sometime within the next week or so I'll get started. Yes, fab houses will do soldering, but through-hole parts are much more expensive than SMD, and sourcing can be a problem (though PCBWay will buy from...
Hey T80, you want any help with this project? I know my way around KiCAD and have ordered boards before, plus I have some advance-ish soldering skills.
Not selfless, of course, I want to make one for my own 5500 :v
Ha, after poking around I found the TriSlot thread and saw this:
Consider this...
Hey gang, I just won the above upgrade card on eBay for my pimptastic 5500, and I was wondering if I could upgrade the cache by adding the missing chips to the board, or if there’s a ROM or similar on the board that will prevent this.
Also, could someone upload a pic of the backside of one of...
Thanks for the heads up on this, someone was selling an unused one for like $20 on ebay so I snapped it up for my 5500(ish) project, so I can stream it out on my twitch.
I was gonna try a bluescsi v2 since it's easy to work with on the external port. I'd imagine it should boot. I just want to do some experiments with my Voodoo2, this wouldn't be a permanent setup. I've been kinda struggling to find a pinout for the edge connector, could someone help me out with...
No backplane, no. I didn't realize the video output was in the edge connector on the 6500 too, oops. Guess I'll need to find the signals and cram them into a vga breakout
I threw out an insulting lowball offer on a "For Parts" Voodoo 2 and they accepted it! I think the "for parts" was just user error, we'll see once it and the Mac shows up. I do like the idea of the loopthrough system and it's confirmed that the Voodoo 2 will play Elite Force which is really all...
Howdy y'all,
I've got a PM6500 board in that should have everything it needs to work and I'd like to do some experimenting with it, but I don't want to have to whack it into a real chassis while I do so. What's the minimum viable product to make it a booting macintosh? Which voltages where, and...
I doubt it. According to all the research I’ve done, X500 logic boards go straight into the 5400 and earlier chassis without issue. I feel like if trying to use max resolution exploded the CRT, someone would have mentioned that. 1280x1024 is not a high end resolution even at the time, and...
Thanks! Lots of excellent info in here! Good point on the phantom display. I haven’t messed with multi monitor setups in classic Mac OS in a long long long time, is there no way to disable a connected display in software?
Do keep us posted on your 6500 project! Got a thread for it?
I mean, the 5500 supports up to 1280x1024 on the internal display.
Really my desire for more video performance is less for resolution and more for games. Yeah I’ve got a G3 iMac that would blow the pants off the AIO, but where’s the fun in doing what’s sensible?
