Thanks for that story! I ran into a friend on Saturday and he was actually looking for a portable so I’m going to put him in touch with the seller. I’m sure they’ll work something out and then in a few months we’ll have one more working Portable in the world. If not I’ll maybe get it and bring...
I used BBEdit and pagespinner.

MR also has versions 1 and 2. 4 is ppc only.
MR has tons of BBEdit versions as well. 4.1 will work pretty well if you have something more than a 68000.
I see mice for $30. I saw one of those non-Apple pre-ADB keyboards for a sale a while ago, but not sure what it went for.
There was also an adapter from back in the day that let you use ADB keyboards/mice with your Plus/512/128, but I've never seen one except in magazine ads.
oh, cool! I'm glad someone picked them up and will archive them. Or at least try. (and I'm not just saying that because now I feel better about wasting 3 hours trolling through eBay searches on floppies ;)
I was trolling through eBay looking for some early dev tools, and came across this lot. It's $35. Encore systems is the team that wrote MacWrite. I don't know what "Glass" is. A top secret project? Nothing interesting at all? Who knows. Some of the disks have LisaList, etc., on them. They could...
Ok, this looks cool and all, and the repro box looks vaguely correct, but let's get a start on all the problems:
It doesn't even come with a 1" x 2" apple box with 0.75" x 1" reproduction manual. No word on nano Apple stickers in correct colors.
0.5x0.25" working mini tape cassette with Mac...
I recently found a book called under the apple, which is an early Mac book about all the wonderfulness that can be achieved by using desk accessories. This is pre-switcher/multifinder era. It has a chapter on developer tools, and some of these look like they would be pretty helpful. I can't find...
Very interesting and ambitious project, love it! I never did C++ with THINK C, but was thinking of doing a project with it.
Any sense for how code efficient the resulting code is?
I've been using my Mac Plus a lot lately, and also my Amiga 3000 with A-Max emulator. I have an SE/30 that works almost perfectly, lost the serial ports to old age apparently, and while it's nice, I love my Plus, the old mouse, and the old (128) keyboard. But using it with the 68030 powered...
blech. Color Classic. I was living in Japan when that came out, and we got one. such a bad decision. It's like a Fiero. Could have been great, but terminally hampered by being underpowered so the real sports car in the product family doesn't lose sales. As slow as you think the color classic is...
Yeah, I hear you. I'd love to have one of these machines to play around with but I just know I'd either leave it around without ever getting around to fixing it, or I'd try to get it fixed and break it more. I still have a mostly working Lisa (1 bad memory board, keyboard needs re-doing) I need...
Oof. This thread has a pretty scary set of info.
https://tinkerdifferent.com/threads/gotchas-when-buying-a-macintosh-portable.2843/
Sounds like:
- need to recap motherboard. I would guess right now that kills this gentleman's interest. Amiga of Rochester is a long ways away...
- need to...
I bought some old Mac magazines from a guy yesterday whose wife had been a huge Mac fan. We were talking and he mentioned she had a Mac with a suitcase handle. I thought that had to be a portable. I’ve never actually seen a portable in real life.
She had a 512k (not upgraded to Plus), a plus...
