Yep, I have a G3 233 that I use as a bridge Mac. It has Firewire, USB and SCSI. Usually I will transfer files from my modern Mac to a USB/Firewire drive via USB. Then transfer to the G3 via Firewire. I unstuff and mount and re-package all software and files in a more compatible format. I can...
I was there looking for some NeXT stuff and a 12" RGB for my LCII, neither of which were there. I ended up just buying some small stuff like a 5 port EtherHub, a pair of TP Link Ethernet extenders, a USB hub, etc. I did pick up a free 4:3 LCD monitor though. It works great with my Beige G3 233.
I have found that Toast 5.2.1 reads a lot of images that no other software will mount. I downloaded some dsk, dmg, smi, etc. files that Stuffit, Shrinkwrap, Disk Copy 4.2 or 6.x just would not read, but Toast 5.2.1 opened them right up.
I finally got it working by using 2.8.3 Firewire drivers and a drive that has a power cable. I'm using the Adaptec AFW-4300A. The self-powered drives do not work on OS 8.6 but they do work on OS 9 (weird).
I have tried 3 different cards, IOGear GIC 430F, Adaptec FireConnect AFW-4300, and Adaptec 4300A. The Adaptecs show up and and register in the System Profiler. I'm starting to think it's because I'm using 2 drives with FW800 connectors and a 800>400 cable. maybe if I bought a native FW 400 drive...
The FireConnect 4300 says requirements are:
\
Macintosh
Mac OS 8.6 or later
Power Macintosh 8600/9600 or later
Available PCI slot
CD-ROM drive
Would the G3 266 be considered later than an 8600? I know it was released in November 97 with a PPC 750 and the 8600 was released earlier February 97...
I've tried an Adaptec AFW-4300 and an IOGear GIC430F and neither work. I've tried Firewire enabler 2.33, 2.4, 2.5 and 2.8.3.
The System Profiler sees the card and Card Type, Model and Vendor ID are displayed but Card Model and ROM# are not.
The IOGear says it's compatible with OS 8.6 and a Blue...
Thanks for this. I've kinda switched over to Blue SCSI but I still have 2 SCSI2SDs (v5.0 and v5.2).
SCSI2SD is still pretty confusing to me comparatively. Making more than one device isn't clear at all to me. If I have an 8GB card and want 4 devices I can do one 1GB and three 2GB devices so it...
I have noticed it's difficult to get them to sit straight up without slipping off the terminal. I can see where a bump or jar could knock it off its terminal after the case is on the computer.
I see huge differences between prices here, on eBay and at local vintage computer shows. eBay tends to be inflated and prices on vintage gear have sky-rocketed in the past 10 years. According to eBay sales I'd estimate between $15 and $50 depending on condition and strength of the buyers desire.
I have 2 iLamps, one 700mhz and one 800mhz. Both of them have a dark spot in the same place about 4cm from the bottom right of the screen. Does anyone know what causes this? Any fixes? Maybe something pushing on it from behind? I've seen it in other iLamps too.
I don't really know what to call this thing but it's glued to the inside of the iMac G4 bottom case cover. It seems to be made of some sort of silicone or teflon or something soapy feeling. Anyway, this thing pretty much disintegrated on one of my iMacs. I want to replace it because it's a...
So, what you're saying is get a wifi extender with an ethernet port, like this one:
Get the wifi extender onto your wifi network and then plug the ethernet into your G3 or G4 Mac.
I do this with my Legends Ultimate Arcade because it's wifi is wonky.
I would love to find a way to set up a wifi...
