Possibly now completely off topic at this point in the thread, but riffing on what you just brought up @Trash80toHP_Mini, i had actually been looking into this for a crazy hack idea of:
1. grabbing video output from a video card and turning that into vga,
2. converting vga->hdmi,
3...
Round 2 of hypothetical multiprocessor Mac insanity.
Does anyone know if the PPC 601 upgrade for LC 475/575/630 (aka Apple Power Mac Processor Upgrade or Daystar PowerCard 601 or Sonnet Presto PPC) will work in a Performa 630/640 DOS system?
Physically it seems like this would fit just...
Congrats @ants looks great! Glad this will inspire more of your amazing software hacking :)
Out of curiosity what was the ROM version of your Turbo 040, and what type was it (e.g. cache daughtercard or the newer ASIC variety)? Also did you try to recap it?
Looks like a dual PDS riser card for IIsi. Supermac made one as well, I believe it may have been bundled with their video cards. Best guess is another video card manufacturer made yours (rasterops?). Here's pics of mine.
In the past I've seen the Supermac dual PDS card go for $20ish, probably...
This is fascinating stuff @GeekDot! You're right about the brain implosion, machine code like this is beyond me. I enjoy reading comments in code though, its like a real time way of seeing your work & thought process. Pretty fascinating how each different machine it supports has special...
Seems they made a few different versions of the QuadDoubler that were rotated in different directions to accommodate different systems (according to Amiga Hardware Database):
> available in different pin orientations - the QuadDobler model number BSW2001004950 installs parallel over the...
@techknight 68k.io is a simple page that hits the Spotify API to grab a short code that you need to confirm your device's authorization. Seems you'd need to be logged into Spotify via your browser and then 68k.io just displays a page to grab the short key to confirm connection. That requires...
Brilliant! I was waiting for this to drop since you mentioned it. Congrats on the build. Seems with the Oauth flow you've paved the way for a few more services too.
Re: Spotify connect device, looks like that would include Raspberry Pi as well - https://github.com/dtcooper/raspotify ...
Ok so VGA and VRAM is on-board. Am I right in assuming the visual artifacts are likely VRAM related then? I've read about something like this happening before from other vintage hardware, but want to isolate the problem best I can before I go looking for new chips & someone to fix it. Thanks!
Same issue with the original 486dx2-66 (the solitaire image was from that). Interesting I didn't realize it used internal video but that makes sense.. I figured the two large chips to the bottom right of the 486 were VRAM but I guess they're the 128k cache the card comes with.
Sounds like I...
Necro'ing this thread for a related question. I've got the same card (OrangePC 290) and I'm seeing visual artifacts appear soon after opening any program with graphics (e.g. Windows 3.1, Simcity). My guess is this is a VRAM issue, but I haven't stress tested this card to know if this happens...
@Gorgonops this reminds me of something I read the other day about the 040 and the 68882:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorola_68040
Unfortunately, the 68040 ran into the transistor budget limit early in design. While the MMU did not take many transistors—indeed, having it on the same die as...
@Von the first photo is just a joke, it's a Turbo040 -> daystar IIcx adapter (fake) plugged into -> socketed daystar board. And then another daystar 030 accelerator -> micromac PDS adapter -> MacCon. I tried for maximal ridiculousness :)
@Gorgonops this is what I was thinking -...
