I love this and want to be on the list! Especially love the idea of baking this in with other improvements; my long term hope is various mods are consolidated into fewer components like Bolle's riser with ethernet or your grayscale+CF example.
Just got the power and video boards of my MacXL / Lisa 2/10 recapped and it boots with two high beeps to this checkerboard pattern. I can't find any reference to this in any of the repair guides. Anybody have any idea what it might be? We've already tried reseating the boards.
Prior to recap...
Whoah this is a nice discovery @dougg3! Looking at your Classic II board, it's got the D62C stepping of the 68030, which is rev B at 1.2 micron. Just for completeness sake, I wonder if the rev C of 68030 (F91C stepping @ 0.8 micron) which came out years later (PGA/QFP in 95, probably earlier...
Thanks @maceffects for the suggestions, will do both video & power then! @stepleton yep its fortuitous timing, I stumbled across ESProFile the day after I got the Lisa back, going to get that set up next! I'm also looking at Alex's GALSCSI card after everything is set up.
Yeah we figured if anything the RIFAs would go and the risk was pretty low turning it on. Yes, a very impressive smell @cheesestraws, the place reeked. We did a full visual inspection before the attempt and there weren't any cap leaks or signs of problems. Even after the smell started releasing...
This find was fun: my friend had a Lisa 2/10 / MacXL in his garage for ~30 years. We'd talk about it over the decades, but it was really hard to access so never did anything about it. Yesterday we pulled it out, turned it on, and it booted right up. Overall it's in great shape. Only issues were...
I think the xceeds are about 5-6w of power whereas @zigzagjoe 's is 2w iirc
I bought one of your supplies @(o';'o) but haven't installed it in my xceed se30 yet.. I need to buy a soldering iron / learn how to do it first :) I'll probably preorder the ifixit one.
What kind of testing do you...
Very cool! What is the Expansion port for? And why did you choose that particular height for the passthrough PDS? Do you have any photos in a machine and how the placement might line up?
iirc we know some nubus cards aren't too strict about nubus timing from prior tests by @joethezombie with the radius, which makes me think a very mild overclock of the SE30 (~18mhz?) might produce some balanced state where both nubus cards and the se/30's features like sound/floppy work by not...
I loved this game back in the day: Snoopy vs the Red Baron https://www.macintoshrepository.org/43231-snoopy-vs-the-red-baron
(also, anyone want to put it on a DSK format so its easy to run in vMac?)
@micheledipaola
Q: When launching the OrangePC, I get nothing but ``error type 11" and cannot get beyond this point for the installation.
Some of the newer Macintosh computers will not run the OrangePC application with earlier MacOS system versions. Install MacOS 7.5.5 or greater. Use...
Thank you @CTB for chiming in with the history! I guess Apple's best intentions for product differentiation with Performa / LC didn't quite happen in reality, as they didn't in so many ways in that era.
Seems like the LC475 case is now closed, so to speak :)
@NJRoadfan amazing thanks for the link up! Relevant part:
> Other models of Mac only existed because of the DET [Dept of Education of Australia]'s contract such as the LC475 auto inject case and floppy drive (which was a rework of surplus LCIII’s in the Singapore factory warehouse.
If this is...
New evidence as come to light! A photo from Apple's Infinite Loop campus store from this reddit thread shows a Performa 460, 475, and 550 side-by-side, with the P475 is in the old-style case, and the P460 is in the transitional espresso case. This shows that Apple was selling old-style 475s at...
Nice job! The movie helps, even tho the screen doesn't change brightness you can tell it's working based on the surroundings getting darker :) Have you considered making a YouTube video that explains the whole mod & walks through the changes? If not you then maybe teaming up with a YouTuber who...
